I got a book when my daughter was 4 - Braids and Bows by KLUTZ - a board book, with illustrations and step by step on how to do regular braids, french braids, inverse french braids, braid crowns and other fun hair styles. It also showed how to make fun and fancy bows. I think it cost $14 and was worth every penny!
The book was given to her 7 years younger cousin and now resides with her 14 year younger cousin. It is warped (from being on wet bathroom counters for years) it still looks good and is in use.
I would recommend it to anyone with little girls, or for persons looking for a good gift for a 4-7 year old girl.
It helped my husband feel comfy with some of the 'styles'. He never attempted the elaborate ones, but it kept my daughter from going to school looking like we had had our water turned off or the like on days when my shift ran late.
I can render and awesome french braid, you can swim in it, play baseball, dance - years of practice :)
