Slippery Fish Island

The Sam Roberts Band wrote a song with the lyrics "time is a slippery fish, now" and that perfectly describes the plight of the avid reader. If you feel this way, that there are not enough nanoseconds in the day to finish what you are reading, that you feel the urge to reach immortality to finish that TBR pile (let alone the others behind it),...more »

Slippery Fish Island Official Book Swap Thread!!!

    Save Changes Cancel
So, I thought it would be fun (and economical) to swap books. I know I have a few books I’ve read and wouldn’t mind passing on to others, in exchange for something I haven’t yet read. This is how it’s going to work:

    1. Those interested will set up their own response to this topic, entitled something like: Halo’s Books for Swap. In your response, list as many or as few books that you have in your possession that you would like to trade. Instead of responding to each thread or adding on, making this thread a monster and difficult to track, you can just edit your own reply to add or delete books.

    2. You can peruse everyone’s threads at your leisure. If and when you see a book you’d like to trade, send that person either a personal message or a note on their wall indicating you’d like to make a trade. That person will peruse your books and if they see something they’d like, they will respond in kind.

    3. Swap addresses via personal message (or however you’d like) and pop those books in the mail. Jerry tells me that the US postal service has something called ‘media mail’, and you simply tell them that you’re mailing a book at the post office and you get a cheaper rate.

I’m also told that owners of certain types of ereaders can also swap books electronically? That’s also and option- if you have that type of ereader simply indicated it in your post. You never know!

I am basically not willing to part with books... unless they are utter crap... in which case it seems a little churlish to force them onto fellow Islanders...

Ok, I just went to the bookstore and bought a book I already had.

Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny. A SF work. It's a SF Masterworks trade pb. (I bought it because I thought I had Creatures of Light and Darkness)

I do have a printout but Zelazny wasn't on there. Wasn't the brightest moment there, and I passed up a lot of other good choices as well.
