I disagree. Crayons can be very precise, as long as the weilder chooses to be. And if you have a problem with that, you should simply get a crayon sharpener. They are only flakey if you buy the cheaper ones (which really aren't that much cheaper, depending on where you shop. Try crayola and you will run into that problem on a lesser occasion. I would count them melting as a pro (unless it is in the back seat of your car), you can put two or more colors in a cup, melt them in the microwave, mix them quickly and thoroughly, and you then have a brand new color.
Markers bleed and you can see where they overlap. They do have nice colors if you only need a line of color, but if you need to do wide space, crayons are your tool to use.
