Note: The thread for the original posting of this project became so long, I decided to lock that thread and start a new one. The content of this, the OP, is the same. The original thread is here - http://www.shelfari.com/groups/63223/discussions/250963/%5BIn-Progress%5D-%28Editions-Tab-Cleanup%29-Miscellaneous-Titles?showall=true#4990497
As we process combination requests and separation requests, Librarians come across some combined editions that need serious work on the editions tab.
Tasks:
1) Separate editions that don't belong to the combined version and
2) Organize the editions tab of the combined version by, at least, language sets and use, at least, subcategories of audio and e-Book within a language set. (Anything more would be great but these are the minimum)
Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated. I'll add titles as we find the need for this kind of work
Thanks!
DL
- Gulliver's Travels, Jonathan Swift - http://www.shelfari.com/books/33498/Gullivers-Travels/editions (This has some incorrectly combined editions, editions under "English" that should have subcategories such as "audio, and several on the last few editions tab pages that need to be put in language sets.") ---Alina B: submitted; pending decisions by Librarians
- Journey to the Center of the Earth, Jules Verne - http://www.shelfari.com/books/31800/Journey-to-the-Center-of-the-Earth/editions --Jacqueline L: working
- The Hound of the Baskervilles, Doyle - http://www.shelfari.com/books/31781/The-Hound-of-the-Baskervilles/editions (This is pretty much a mess. Lots of editions. Needs lots of work.)---priya g: submitted - waiting for review
- David Copperfield, Dickens - http://www.shelfari.com/books/9486581/David-Copperfield/editions (incorrectly combined editions; last few pages of the editions tabs not organized at all - probably due to fairly recent combinations, etc.) ---Mrs R: Working
- The Three Musketeers, Dumas - http://www.shelfari.com/books/10224/The-Three-Musketeers/editions
- Cyrano De Bergerac, Rostand - http://www.shelfari.com/books/420449/Cyrano-de-Bergerac/editions (this one is BIG!)
- The Man Who Would Be King, Kipling - http://www.shelfari.com/books/599001/The-Man-Who-Would-Be-King-and-Other-Stories/editions (There are many editions included with do NOT have the "other stories." They need to be separated and combined together under the single title. In addition, there may be some editions that are critical works not including or in addition to the main story. These need to be separated.) --priya g: working
-The Odyssey, Homer - http://www.shelfari.com/books/5320370/The-Odyssey/editions (Note: It is absolutely appropriate, indeed, it was the intended purpose for the subcategory data element, to identify translators using the subcategory labels. If you don't know the translator, put the book in a generic language category.)
- The Vicomte de Bragelonne, Dumas http://www.shelfari.com/books/18377/The-Vicomte-de-Bragelonne/editions
- The Man in the Iron Mask, Dumas - http://www.shelfari.com/books/18860/The-Man-in-the-Iron-Mask/editions

- Democracy in America, de Tocqueville - http://www.shelfari.com/books/10242/Democracy-in-America/editions; This has volume 1 editions and volume 2 editions which need to be separated and moved into already combined versions of each; the language sets need to be scoured for appropriate category settings and there are quite a few "unknown languages" sets that need to be cleaned up.
- Faust, Goethe - http://www.shelfari.com/books/1002043/Faust-%281%29/editions Someone has put this as a combination of the whole book and those editions labeled as Part 1. These need to be separated so that there are 2 combined books. There are 892 editions in this combined version but a lot of the language sets have been worked. You will need to carefully examine each language set to find the "part 1" editions, the audio editions, and the e-Book editions. It will be your choice whether to separate Part 1 editions or to separate the whole work editions. Search first to see if you can find an existing standalone so that you can target your separation requests to go ahead and combine the newly separated edition into that existing standalone. In fact, if you cannot find an existing standalone before you start the separation work, I would recommend that you separate one edition and, once that has been approved and processed, use that as the target for the remaining separation requests. When this task is done, there should be three combined editions: 1) Faust, 2) Faust - Part 1, and 3) Faust - Part 2. They should be appropriately titled and the editions sets for each should be complete. That means checking out the existing "Part 2" edition tab as well.
- The Snow Queen, Anderson - http://www.shelfari.com/books/202021/The-Snow-Queen-(Fairy-Tales)/editions (per Phoenix Falls: "it seems like it needs a lot of research, because there are a bunch of different peoples' versions combined in several different book pages that need to be processed out and recombined properly.")
- The Scarlett Letter, Hawthorne - http://www.shelfari.com/books/10576/The-Scarlet-Letter (This beautifully worked combined edition has been totally screwed. Adaptions, etc. have been combined together. Those need to be separated and THOSE need to be combined with the appropriate contributor linkages AND with the "derivative" marker set. )
- The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - http://www.shelfari.com/books/10577/The-Strange-Case-of-Dr-Jekyll-and-Mr-Hyde ((This beautifully worked combined edition has been totally screwed. Adaptions, etc. have been combined together. Those need to be separated and THOSE need to be combined with the appropriate contributor linkages AND with the "derivative" marker set. )
- Heidi, Spyri - http://www.shelfari.com/books/20265/Heidi (Lots of loose editions but careful consideration of the existing language sets is needed. There are some illustrated versions and some others that might be sequels, adaptations, derivatives, etc.)
Note to all: Remember to check the guidelines for things that should be and should not be combined - http://www.shelfari.com/groups/59851/discussions/252910/3---Editions-Combination-Edit-Requests?showall=true#5050260
