If you need somewhere to go or someone to talk to, we are always here. But if you need help immediately, this is where you should be.
If you're about to harm yourself:
Step away from whatever is stressing you immediately. Whatever it is, it can wait a couple minutes. If it's your homework, toss it aside. If it's your friends, tell them you need to leave. If it's your parents, take a walk or go "run errands", or even lock yourself in your bedroom or the bathroom if you can't leave the house. Do something that you love instead - you can listen to music and dance like a nutter in your bedroom, make yourself hot cocoa with a ton of whipped cream and marshmallows, take a hot shower with soap that smells nice, talk to your pet or your stuffed animals, play an instrument or sing, watch videos of cats on YouTube. If you are hurting inside, let yourself cry, or scream into a pillow, or punch your mattress. Do something that will distract you until the feeling passes. (If you've considering starting self-harm, keep reading - there is something for you after the sources down there).
If you need to talk to someone: There are two hotlines you can call toll-free if you need help.
1-800-273-TALK (the National Suicide Hotline; even if you have no suicidal intent you can still call if you have the urge to self harm)
1-800-334-HELP (the Self Injury Foundation Hotline)
If you have texting you can also text Project Toe, a text version of these hotlines, at 331-442-4863.
Project Toe has also established an online chat, too! http://www.projecttoe.com
If you're considering starting self-harm: Please, please, please don't. Self-harm is an escape, that is true, but the bad outweighs the good a million to one. It's dangerous, it's addictive, and it fuels a cycle of self-destruction: you self-harm because you feel bad, you feel bad for self-harming, you self-harm because you feel bad... In all seriousness, self-harm is like the freaking Mafia - once you're in it's almost impossible to get out. There are so many alternatives to self-injury that I covered previously... ones that are safe, ones that won't suck you in and hold on, ones don't require hiding scars for the rest of your life. There is always another answer.
If you've overdosed, cut too deep, etc: Call 911 or your local emergency number NOW.
And for all of you: You are beautiful, funny, smart, and compassionate. Though you may not know it, there are a lot of people in your life who love you, care about you, and admire you. You are the only person just like you who will ever be. And somewhere on this planet, your soul mate is living out another day, unaware of the wonderful person they are going to meet and spend the rest of their lives with. You mean the world to someone, and you don't even know it yet.
Tomorrow is another day; tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life. And it seems silly, but one of these 'tomorrows', everything's going to fall into place. Every day is worth it... just like you. You can overcome this. I know you can.
