    V.S. Naipaul and Women Writers

    Save Changes Cancel
I just read an article about a very famous and well-respected postcolonial author named V.S. Naipaul: VS Naipaul finds no woman writer his literary match – not even Jane Austen (http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/jun/02/vs-naipaul-jane-austen-women-writers). I was very saddened when reading this article because I've always respected Naipaul's works; I've studied him a lot in my literature classes. To read that he thinks so little of female authors is quite disheartening.

So, I've brought the article to the attention of Cafe Libri Readers. Does anyone have thoughts or comments after reading it? I've also posted a question about it in the Lunch Cafe Libri Community where you can express whether there is a difference between women's and men's writing styles (http://community.cafelibri.com/Forums-V_S_Naipaul_and_Women_Writers-74-568-1-1.html).

And for those who want a little test, here is a quiz you can take about gender writing: The Naipaul test: Can you tell an author's sex? (http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/quiz/2011/jun/02/naipaul-test-author-s-sex-quiz?CMP=twt_fd) Let us know how you scored!
