This is the creed of the I Am Not A Book Snobbian. This group is about the celebration of ALL reading; whether it is a classic of the times grounded in brilliantly descriptive writing OR a light, fun book that is read for a quick story.

What a week!. Spillt a double whiskey on my computer last Sunday( my first of the day so no I wasnt drunk! :) !).still not working properly,I had to travel to the public library yesterday to do some posts etc, since it is the start of a new month, lots of challenges etc to sort.I've borrowed a keyboard and obtained a mouse today,so I'm back in business! YAY.
Have you ever seen a drunk computer? I tapped the letter ''i'' just to test and iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii marched across the page, then went on line after line of marching iiiiiiiis! lol.goodness knows how long it will be to dry out.I may have to send it to a rehab clinic,ie computer repair shop, but I'm hoping not to have that expense at the moment - 3 family birthdays in 10 days! :0(

Aww this happened with liquidy chili paste and a laptop to my friend recently. If it happens again, I've heard THE best thing to do after a spill is to turn off the computer right away. It apparently stops some of the possible damage. Good luck getting it fixed :)

I have an old portable keyboard lying on the laptop, and have to use a mouse, which is a pain after my super quick laptop mousepad.you click and click to make it work and my shoulder muscle is aching.Have to use the laptop on the kitchen table, too cumbersome putting on my knee so its all a bit daunting! :)

ouch! I hate it when they do that...I don't know how they expect ebooks to be the answer to piracy if they make them soo unreasonably expensive. And many of them aren't work a re-read so what's a bookworm to do :/

Soo, finally back on the forum after being away for a loong time (at least for me). Came on a couple of times to update books but that's it. Anyway, had some good times and bad. Went for a week's holiday (which was great), picked up a nasty infection on the return trip (which was horrible), got really behind in my work (which was expected) and suffering from the post-holiday/ convalescence blues so spent the past couple of days correcting people's grammar on facebook

      Congratulations Rich!

I completely understand Dusty but in my family it is the opposite. I'm the only granddaughter out of 5 and the only female cousin in my extended family. Thankfully, my cousin's wife had a daughter a year ago so I'm not alone anymore.

My brother hated being the only boy, with 3 sisters, and vowed to have at least 2 boys.Things were looking bad,two girls in a row,but the next two were boys,so he got his wish.Oddly both sons had only daughters, who married,so the family name has died out in our line.I could follow the line all the way back to 1561,so it was sad in a way.But another branch is carrying on the name,so thats good.We females are just TOO dominant lol.

OK,its official,Dusty has lost her mind Has just joined The Extraordinary League for Women's Birth of a Reader Tracker, where I have to read a book for each year from my birth up to 2012,i.e. from 1948- 2012.I had intended to wait till about August when I should have completed 12x12,but no,wave another book challenge in front of Dusty's nose and she cant resisr. After all,I only have 12x12,5 Urban Fantasy, the Booknabbers AOTM and TOTM,BBC Big Reads( only 6 a year,a mere bagatelle, and my Forever Summer Reading.a mere 30 books a quarter, plus about 4 a month in the mini challenge.Of course I have plenty of time and space for another challenge! Well.fortunately, many of them can double up from other challenges, but I am really looking forward to getting on to fantasticfiction and happily and nostalgically digging up books I have either forgotten over the years,or should have read.
Evana,I can officially blame you, though the idea was already in my mind.Always good to spread the blame! :0)

Its always sad when you hear a favourite author has passed away, and that those fictional worlds and great characters will never be added to.I was so sad when my great favourite Dick Francis died.I had been reading his books for 40 years or more1 Then there was Anne McCaffrey, whose dragons series was so beloved across the world. At least we can reread old books, but there is always that touch of melancholy.

I am unhappy about the same problem. In my case, its Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth ,800 pages long, and it would be 1200 pages if it were normal print Its tiny!.Darent touch it at the moment,I am having eye problems, apprehensive about my eye test on friday anyway,so am trying to read books with bigger print for now,not one that needs a magnifying glass to see it!

About two weeks ago I started having an odd quirk of vision in my left eye.One evening I looked out at the moon and it looked like 3 moons, overlapping views,I was seeing a sort of double vision. This week by chance I looked across the kitchen using only my left eye,and could barely see through this mist.Reading a book with this eye was impossible.I had to wait till today for an eye test, and I am so relieved!.For some reason no nutrients have been going into my left eye, causing a rapid deterioration in the lens.Fortunately I live only 5 miles from one of the best eye hospitals in Europe, and there is some new innovative technique which can remedy my situation very successfully. For the moment my right eye is doing all the work, and coping well, though with a little strain.will have to read in good light conditions, and bigger print, but things are not too bad.The drawback is that with the National Health Service, while totally free, there are long waiting lists,it could be many weeks, several months before I get the treatment.I can only hope that the condition doesnt spread as fast in my right eye. But at least for now,my optician is confident of good results, which is a relief.I have spent the last week thinking about detached retinas, tumors, and other horrors. What a week! :

You know, I used to get an email every now and then asking "should I read this?" I always responded as thoughtfully as possible ... I'd check the "asker's" shelf to try to understand his/her likes/preferences. I haven't gotten one of those for ages. I'm wondering if I accidently reset my profile somehow to eliminate those requests.

I wish there was a separate tab for the questions alongside "community"! Navigating to the questions section at the end of "popular books" is just annoying. I think people would be more help and answer questions if this feature was easier to access (other than being on the side panel of individual books).
