I Am Not A Book Snob Book Club

"Literature is a luxury; fiction is a necessity." ~ G.K. Chesterton

This is the creed of the I Am Not A Book Snobbian. This group is about the celebration of ALL reading; whether it is a classic of the times grounded in brilliantly descriptive writing OR a light, fun book that is read for a quick story.

This is a group in which...more »

yes i went through a phase when all i read was the series romances by harlequin and such. now i am on a paranormal kick but am still reading the short romances to get rid of them as i seem to have grown out of them somewhat and prefer a more substantial romance. unfortunately my paranormal books are few and far between. i have most of sookie and bdb though

I try to keep the types of books I read varied so I don't get bored of one, but I do go through slight obsessions, if not with genres, with certain books. However, I do tend to go through phases of not being able to read a single thing, and nothing holding my interest, to phases where I'm racing heaps of books, even if they aren't very good. :P

Yes, I am the same as you with reading phases - sometimes I race through books, then I hit a dry spell or read several books I don't like, which brings on a dry spell. I find variety helps, and I try not to read several books by an author in a row.

With all the wonderful books I have to read,I find myself rereading books. This phase usually doesn't last long because if I check our groups I realize OMG look at everything else I am wanting to read. I seem to reread Nora Roberts and a few older Sandra Brown books.

I now what you mean about Roberts. I've re-read a lot of hers.

funny, I have no time to re-read! Sometimes I think about it, but then I look at my huge stash of books waiting for a first read and I can't re-read em! Last year I did manage to re-read some of my serial romances kept from the '80s.... they were not as good as I remembered, lol!

LOL! I know! Romance has changed SO much over time. It's interesting to look at an author like Roberts who has been writing since then and to compare her current books.
I could be mistaken, but I think that the romance audience has changed a lot over the years.

You betcha. Right now I am going through a romance phase. I will read any type of romance but find if I read too many paranormals back to back (or historicals or contemporaries etc.) I get bored with the sub-genre.

A few years back all I read were mysteries (well, I did through in a few romance but 90% of my reading was mysteries/horror) I loved them and still have literally thousands of them sitting here waiting for my next book mood swing.

When I first found Zane Grey, that was all I wanted to read. It got to the point where one story "bled" into the next. Now I try to mix it up a little, although, right now I am trying to get caught up on a couple of series that I recently found.

I'm kind of going through one now that I've found paranormal romances. I'd never heard of them or realized how popular they are until I came to Shelfari. I still have my favorite genres but now I am trying new things.
