    Hello Azniv,

Could we add the book- Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster
    by Svetlana Aleksievich
Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award

Perhaps a quote from the author Robert Jay Lifton's book The Nazi Doctors - Medical Killing and The Psychology Of Genocide would be appropriate in helping other lay persons as myself to better define a true expert.

"and one can ...only experience[it to know it].The expert can record it ,but he cannot enter into it[nachempfinden;"know it from the inside"]--Dr. B”

    Thanks, Beginnings

Hello and thank you for your question.

I haven’t added Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster by Svetlana Aleksievich to the group shelf because I haven’t seen that book mentioned on the Democracy Now! program. However, I am behind about a week and need to catch up on the news. Have they mentioned this book on the show? If they have what was the broadcast date? With the recent tragedy in Japan I would expect a book like this being mentioned on the show.

If you are a regular viewer of this program, and if you would like to help with adding books to the shelf, I could use the help and support. God forbid, if something were to happen to me, I wouldn’t want this group to be stagnant. I just don’t want to add just any book and am strict about adding only those featured or mentioned on this program and that’s why I provide a list with the broadcast date. I really like order and have restricted the ability to add books on the shelf to Admins. If anyone would like to become a co-Admin, please let me know.

The other book you mentioned is on our shelf. I remember that show actually. Derrick Jensen mentioned that book. I haven’t read the book myself so I don’t know of a great quote from it that I could share. (See #120. Lifton, Robert Jay. The Nazi Doctors. Democracy Now Broadcast, November 15, 2010.)

May you have a good day.

    Hello Azniv.

Must admit I have never watched/listened to the show. Do not watch T.V. at home, rarely I will catch a program at my mothers or at a public place, such as the doctor's office. Am not the person to look towards for a sense of order, for I suspect, I may be the definitive of Hit or Miss, hope you are not too disappointed. Would still like to read about what is happening and learn from other's ideas and perceptions about democracy. Will be keeping an eye out for Democracy Now! books and will let you know if I hear any interest in Co-Admin.Thank YOU for your offer and response Azniv!

I don’t typically watch T.V. either. I do watch this show on the internet when I can. Thank you for joining this group. I hope you find good reading suggestions from it.
