This is my most ambitious undertaking yet-- besting raising a teenager, an 8-year old who's as OC as his mom, and a little girl who's showing signs of surpassing my sister in the kikay department.

I don't really keep track of the number of books I read in a year (I'm positive I'm not as rabid as most in FFP). I can't say for sure if I can finish 26 books in... (what date is it today?) 361 days. The quantity, however, poses less of a problem than my resolve, because I have an instinctual aversion to being told what to do.

I've never accepted any reading challenges, until now. I've made a concession in this case because, fortuitously, the first book I read for the year is Paul Auster's Auggie Wren's Christmas Story and I'm now on Anita Brookner's Incidents in the Rue Laugier. Done with A, doing B. I'm off to a good start. But I'm thinking I might be rearranging the English alphabet very soon.

Here's my tentative list from my TBR:

A - Auster, Paul (Auggie Wren's Christmas Story)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/01/pau-auster-auggie-wrens-christmas-story.html

B - Brookner, Anita (Hotel Du Lac)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/01/anita-brookner-hotel-du-lac.html

C - Chai, Arlene (The Last Time I Saw Mother)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/01/arlene-chai-last-time-i-saw-mother.html

D - DiCamillo, Kate (The Tale of Desperaux)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/01/kate-dicamillo-tale-of-desperaux.html

E - Ellis, Virginia (The Wedding Dress)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/01/virginia-ellis-wedding-dress.html

F - Frey, James (My Friend Leonard)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/01/james-frey-my-friend-leonard.html

    G - Gaitskill, Mary (Veronica)

H - Hosseini, Khaled (The Kite Runner)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/02/khaled-hosseini-kite-runner.html

    I - Iggulden, Conn (Emperor)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/04/i-for-iggulden-j-for-jones-and-other.html

J - Jones, Diana Wynne (Howl's Moving Castle)

K - Kallos, Stephanie (Broken For You)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/04/k-for-kallos-l-for-lindqvist.html

L - Lindqvist, John Ajvide (Let The Right One In)

M - Murakami, Haruki (Norwegian Wood)
    http://mentalwayfarer.blogspot.com/2010/04/m-for-murakami-and-n-for-nix.html

    N - Nix, Garth (Sabriel)

    O - Oppel, Kenneth (Airborn)

P - Patchett, Ann (Bel Canto)

Q - Quindlen, Anna (Rise and Shine)

R - Restrepo, Laura (The Dark Bride)

S - Shreve, Anita (Where or When)

T - Thomas, Scarlett (The End of Mr. Y)

U - Updike, John (The Centaur)

    V - Vonnegut, Kurt (Slaughterhouse-Five)

W - Watson, Brad (The Heaven of Mercury)

X - Xialong, Qiu (Death of a Red Heroine)

    Y - Yamanaka, Lois-Ann (Blu's Hanging)

Z - Zusak, Markus (The Book Thief)

You're ahead of me. I'm reading the Twilight series just to finally find out if it's as bad/good as people say it is.

I get what you mean about being told what to do. That's why I falter by midyear. I get tired of REQUIRED reading. But it feels good when I actually finish it, even if I hate being told what to do.

Is Paul Auster good? I see him around, but we haven't shaken hands yet.

I like Paul Auster. A friend of mine told me I should read his New York Trilogy, to introduce myself properly to his work. Of course I did not listen.

I hope Anita Brookner morphs into Anna Quindlen. I'm reading Rise and Shine simultaneously and it looks like I'm going to finish Quindlen first. There goes the alphabet.

Twilight. *snicker* Quit when you finish the first book. You have been warned. (Or read faster! I want to see what title you're reading for A...Julia Alvarez, right? How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents?)

i like both Paul Auster and Anna Quindlen. I rated Auster's "Mr. Vertigo" 3.5 / 4 bookmarks, and Anna Quindlen's "One True Thing" 4 / 4 bookmarks. I'm planning to read Quindlen again this year, coz I have 3 of her books on my TBR (Rise & Shine, Blessings, Black & Blue).

Finished Rise & Shine yesterday. I was disappointed because I couldn't connect with her characters. Could be my failure, not hers. Maybe I should try One True Thing...

A - Auster, Paul (Auggie Wren's Christmas Story)
B - Brookner, Anita (Hotel Du Lac, instead of Incidents in the Rue Laugier... it was calling to me)
Q - Quindlen, Anna (Rise and Shine)

    The laundry waits, impatient.

Auster's is a short book (i'm not sure it's acceptable for this challenge so i MIGHT read something else for A). Brookner's was great. Loved Hotel Du Lac from start to finish. Quindlen's i didn't like; i finished it for the sole reason that i couldn't wait to move on to another, more satisfying book. C is more challenging because i'm reading Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and it's an ebook. Ebooks give me headaches.:P

And i'm a housewife, ergo, i have time. Heheh.

Go, Ajie, go! I still refuse to join this challenge because I don't have an entry for Y. And I'm really counting on the Younghusband brothers to come up with a pictorial autobiography. Hehehe.

Wow, Ajie! You hit the ground running! 3 books na! Im still languishing in my B - Bronte, Charlotte's Jane Eyre, the font is minute! But it's the only copy i have! :-(

I love the Bronte sisters! One of my all-time favorites is Emily's Wuthering Heights. I don't have a copy so I re-read an ebook right after I reviewed Austen's Pride and Prejudice for the discussion last year (I know, I'm a nerd). While I was reading, I had Youtube open and this was playing:

Heheh. There has to be an appropriate background music for a complete experience.

Put reviews for both books in one blog. Read a few books in between, including Laura Restrepo's A Tale of the Dispossessed, but I'll be reading some other book for my letter R. They have to be in order, because I'm sick that way.

Also finished letter K... Stephanie Kallos Broken for You. I'm loving the idea of a multiple-book review. Minimizes the stress. Heheh.
