Theology: "theos" meaning God, and "logos" meaning rational expression. Christian theology therefore means the “rational interpretation of the Christian faith.”
The most basic presupposition in studying systematic theology is a belief in the truthfulness of the Bible. Accurate theology rests on sound exegetical study of the Bible, first with the necessity of normal and plain interpretation. Secondly, greater emphasis is placed on the New Testament since it concludes what the Old Testament left open in the form of doctrine. Lastly, all proof texts must be used properly and mean what they say.
Additionally, there are a series of presuppositions relating to the student of theology: 1) Must be a believer; 2) He must think; 3) He must depend on the Holy Spirit; 4) He must worship – the study of theology is an act of worship.
