    Hi!
    Thanks for joining this group!

Let's use this area to introduce ourselves to each other. Do you have a blog or other social networking profiles you'd like to share?

I know we can visit your profile here to see this info, but if you would leave a little information about yourself and what you are planning to read or are currently reading. If your book is listed, please add to the discussion (even if it's just your name so that others can see that you're reading that book). If your book is not listed, please feel free to add it to the group and start a discussion for it.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them here or send me or John a note.

I'm Pat Hensley from South Carolina. I'm a retired special ed teacher who is now teaching on the university level. My blog is Successful Teaching (http://successfulteaching.blogspot.com). I'm "loonyhiker" on Twitter and Plurk. I am also on Facebook. I am excited about being a part of this group and seeing what interesting books there are to read. I'm not sure how to add a book to the group though so if anyone can tell me how to do that, I'd appreciate it. (Thanks Lee! I found it now that you pointed it out. And I forgot to thank y'all for starting this group!)

    Hi Pat,
To add a book to our group, just add it to your own shelf first. Then over on the right, there's a link to add it to a group. Take a look here for a screenshot: http://skitch.com/kolbert/b1jw7/shelfari-addtogroup

    Thanks for joining the group!

Hi. I'm Kelly Hines, a teacher and PD trainer in North Carolina. I'm been teaching for 10 years and have always been an avid reader. I will read just about anything! Some of my favorite fiction authors are Kathy Reichs, James Patterson, and Adriana Trigiani. I love regional fiction as well. I enjoy books about sports history, biographies and education-related writing. I am so excited to have this wonderful list of books to read for the summer. You can find my blog at http://keepingkidsfirst.wordpress.com. I am @kellyhines on Twitter and "Kelly Hines" on LinkedIn.

Hi. I'm Susan Gilley, technology coordinator at Bergman High School in Bergman, Arkansas. I love to read, but typically its more for social relaxation as opposed to reading for work related improvement. However, at a recent conference, some of the videos from Brain Rules were shared with our group, and I notice its on the list for summer reads. Therefore, my interest is peaked to read some of the books on the summer reading list. I don't have a blog, but do have a wiki page that I started this year. http://sgilley.wikispaces.com

Hello everyone. I am a private Catholic high school Library Media Specialist in San Juan Capistrano, CA. I usually only read for professional purposes - I don't have the time to read for pleasure, except on airplanes. I have a blog for south Orange County school librarians, so it's rather specialized to just our group of librarians and it's reasonably new. With the budget issues, librarians with Master's degrees have become quite scarce in California. I am heavily involved in my professional associations as I am on a national ALA group called LIRT (library instruction) and its focus is transitioning high school students to college level research. Also a member of LILi, which is Esther Grassian's group at UCLA. Plus many others, too numerous too mention. Thanks for starting this group, Lee.

Can't wait to warm up with Teach Like Your Hair's On Fire by Rafe Esquith. Then I'll slip into Dan Brown's Digital Fortress for some adventure of another flavor. I just ordered Teach Like Your Hair's On Fire and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I have a newly formed student advisory group to steer the direction of the newly "redesigned" fiction section and to plan events/activities to promote literacy. Thanks to the PTO the media center just purchased cafe tables/stools and the kids love them.

Hi! My name is Alvin. I am a middle school language arts teacher in Indiana with 10 years experience. I have a hard time reading during the school year as I also direct two productions each year for the drama club and am the 7th grade baseball coach. It feels like I coach three sports, but I enjoy it. Recently, I have delved into the world of graphic novels - which started out as research for a play that I co-wrote, but is now somewhat of a big kid hobby. I am learning to love the library again...I go about once every two to three weeks. I will have my nose into about 3 books at a time - each situated around the house depending upon my mood. I read somewhat in seasons related to baseball and football. Though fiction is very entertaining I find nonfiction to be equally so.
Thank you Lee for inviting me to this group. I look forward to networking with other educators!

I have a "Can you outread Mrs. G?" challenge with my students every grading period. I post the books I've read so the kids know what they need to beat. (We use number of pages.) Consequently, I read quite afew Young Adult titles. I also read a lot of suspence/mystery for pleasure. I actually found this group because I was looking for a discussion on the current book I'm reading, Three Cups ofTea. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and hearing yours.

Hello Everyone! My name is Holly and I'm currently teaching 11th and 12th grade Special Ed in Cincinnati OH. I, like Teresa, have always been an avid reader but got really turned off in high school with all the "required" reading that I never could related to. Since getting my degree and my classroom, I've been searching for books that the kids could related to. I'm trying to get to read some "adult" novels this year, since I spend most of my time reading kids books. I'm currently reading Shutter Island and Game Change. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning more books to read:)

Wow! This is a great group. I work for a publisher who supports education. Please let us know if you need review copies of our titles for your class or reading groups. You can check out my shelf here on shelfari, or go right to our main web site and let me know what you think. We will have a specific place for educators to download learning aides and give us suggestions. www.goldenagstories.com

Hi, I'm a computer teacher at a small private school and I love to read. Lately I've been into biographies but also love other genres. I'm trying to build a summer reading list.

Hello. I am Leighann and I am a second grade teacher in NH currently on a family leave. I've been reading lots of my old favorites, but I have several books in line that have been recommended by friends. I also have tons of PD books to get to as well, some rereads, but mostly new ones.

    Hi,
I am Kori Malone, and I teach in a small private school in the Seattle-area. I have been teaching for 17 years, and love it! I will complete a masters in special education in early spring, and am looking forward to choosing what I read for the first time in two years.
