I have two books by Nora Roberts on my tbr, so I'm happy I'll get to at least one of them this month. Most likely I'll try for The Hollow (book 2 of the Sign of Seven trilogy). Of course, I plan to read book 3 (The Pagan Stone) at some point as well. I also have Black Hills on my tbr.

I remember really liking an O Henry story I read in high school. He wrote The Monkey's Paw, didn't he? That's the one I'm thinking of. If I can fit something in, I'll have to research a little more to see what I might like.

I've read lots of Anne Rice, but oooooh, I've put off Memnoch the Devil for years! Maybe this is finally the push I need to read it! :-)

"monkey's paw" is by someone named jacobs, and it is an awesome story! o henry wrote "the gift of the magi", which you've probably read or at least seen allusions to a million times--a total classic--and "the ransom of red chief".
he's the master of the twist ending.

Memnoch was a good one. Way way better than Tale of the Body Thief, which was a disaster.

I loved Tale of the Body Thief.. that was probably my favorite one in the series.

LOL, just goes to show, it's all subjective. Aside from The Vampire Armand, TOTBT was just too slow, and I felt like so little happened. I also got really tired of listening to Lestat complain about having to poo. It was annoying and gross.

dl, thanks for filling me in. I have heard of O Henry, but I'm not sure I've read anything by him after all. I was getting him confused with Jacobs, apparently.

"monkey's paw" def. has the o henry/saki feel to it--in fact, i had to look up before i said who wrote it because i was thinking it was saki! o henry is awesome, though--short story master of all time. i'm trying to remember the title of one of his stories where three people come together with an onion, a potato and a piece of meat...:)

Interview with a Vampire moves up the TBR and I have a collection of O Henry stories somewhere.

Interestingly, I spent a good chunk of last week discussing what was up with Anne Rice these days and her juxtaposition from horror/erotica to the Biblical stuff she writes now. I hope we get a good cross-section!

The brand new Nora Roberts book, Bed of Roses, just came out yesterday and it is going to take all of my willpower to wait until November 1 to start! I also have Holiday in Death by J.D. Robb up this month...probably a fun Thanksgiving read.

Okay, I completely lack any semblance of willpower and read TWO Nora Roberts books over the past 3 days - including her new one which I devoured in two sittings.

I am completely out of NR to read now! I decided that it's time to read the MacGregor Series from her early days as a romance novelist. They aren't offered on kindle and many of them are out of print so I requested the first two from the library and hopefully they'll come in soon. I think there are 8 books in the series so that should keep me busy for more than just this month!

I have had Interview with the Vampire on my wish list for awhile (and it fits as a Thriller for PBT) so it is the perfect time to give it a try.

For Nora Roberts, my mother lent me Remember When for another challenge. I have been putting off getting to it, so now must be the time. I figure it is a good intro to Roberts since part of the book is written as Nora Roberts and part of the books is written as JD Robb.

As far as O. Henry, I will see what the library has for him. It seems that most of his works were short stories, so I will see what collections they have when I go.

I found Interview to be kinda boring, but it sets up a great story. The next two books are awesome.

I've picked up a compilation of O'Henry's short stories at the library just now. My plan is to sift through them and read a few that strike my fancy. I had totally forgotten that he wrote "The Gift of the Magi"...but I can never forget that he wrote "The Ransom of Red Chief". Who can forget that one?

I read "Interview with the Vampire" a long time ago. If I have time I'll try to read something else from that series, but I have too many books to read this month as usual. I'm still working on reading the authors from October.

I don't think I'm interested in Nora Roberts or JD Robb this month so I'll probably pass on them, but I'll look forward to reading everyone else's reviews.

I'll be reading Naked in Death by JD Robb. I hope to read The Circle Trilogy as well (written under Nora).

As for the other two, I may see if the library has some O Henry, but I'm not up for any Rice right now. I'll eventually try to read the Witching Hour and Taltos, but not this month.

I love O Henry so I will be reading several of his short stories. I also found a biography that seems interesting; apparently he was quite a shady character when he lived in Austin, TX, during the late 1800's. Charges of embezzlement forced him to flee to Honduras.
Nora Roberts is not an author that I have read so I will take Nicole's suggestion and try a romantic suspense.
I have tried one Anne Rice and couldn't finish it ("Violin") but I am willing to try a different book.

I just requested Northern Lights by Nora, and I own Interview with a Vampire by Rice (it's been sitting on my TBR forever). I will have to check out an O Henry book from the library tomorrow night when I go with my son. Great choices this month!

What was the classic movie based on several of O. Henry's short stories? It was good and now I want to rewatch.

    Let's see . . .

I own Vision in White - - it was a gift - - so now is a good excuse to try Nora Roberts. I've not read her before.

I've actually not read Anne Rice either, but always felt I should. However, what she offers for the Kindle is very limited :[. I actually downloaded a sample of her "erotica" book, the Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. It's very, very erotic (I'd call it porn for women so far), but I am already kind of sucked into it . . .I may go there . . .that will be a very different read for me.

I have a book of O. Henry short stories, and I can't wait to DIG in!! I will definitely read the ones being recommended here assuming they are in the book.

A co-worker lent me the three books of Rice's erotica and I read the first - "Claiming of Sleeping Beauty". I didn't think a book could make me blush but now I know they can! Your description of 'porn for women' is quite apt.

Ellen - I appreciate you admitting that you gave it a shot. I'll admit to being sort of open-minded to trying it out, but it sounds like you didn't feel real compelled to finish the trilogy, lol. Maybe one is more than enough.

wow what a great list of authors! I've been meaning to get to the third book in Nora Roberts' Irish trilogy-Heart of the Sea, for a while, so I'll go with that.

As far as Anne Rice goes, I've read nearly everything by her. I've been a huge fan for years. I highly recommend the Mayfair Witches series (The Witching Hour, Lasher and Taltos) and I love the Vampires as well. The only books by Rice that I do not recommend are Belinda and Violin. These books in my opinion were not her best stuff and left me very disappointed. Belinda I couldn't finish.
I haven't read her new christiany stuff but her new release Angel Time looks interesting. I may have to give that one a go.

I'm ashamed to admit I've never heard of O Henry. Did he only write short stories?

He wrote a wonderful, and fairly well known, short story called The Gift of the Magi. It's a very easy read, and I would definitely recommend it as an introduction. He's known as one of the masters of short stories, so I'm not sure he has written anything else . . .so it should be easy to at least squeeze in a story or two.

I, too, am going to read only the short stories by O' Henry. I've had this book The Best of O' Henry (its got 24 of his stories) for ages but never got around reading it. Just noticed that my two favourites The Last Leaf and The Gift of the Magi are not there in it but I remember them really well, so I don't think that'll be a problem.
