Hi,
Let me introduce myself; I am a New Zealand fantasy author with a story to tell …
After an intensive pre-marketing campaign, my manuscript 'Magician, Man and Beast' was the highest rated on NZ writing critique site 'worthyofpublishing.com' After several great reviews from publishers, but no bites, I decided to publish the book myself. A comic book artist, and illustrator, I created the distinctive cover (completely absent of text) and interior illustrations myself. I have just officially released my book.
Publisher comments:
Thank you for the submission of your novel, Magician, Man and Beast. We enjoyed the sample and thought it showed great originality as well as indicating that the novel has a fascinating, suspenseful and well-structured plot.
However, we only have a small list at the moment and this not only makes the competition intense but also makes the decision about what and what not to publish very difficult. We’re sorry to tell you that Magician, Man and Beast isn’t what we are looking for at this current time – this is because we tend not to opt for thrillers or horror, or anything else that is overly genre-specific.

I have read Daniel Williamson's work and think he is a fine writer. His artwork is also rather good. However, the novel MAGICIAN, MAN AND BEAST is very much a fantasy novel and the fantasy genre is somewhat outside our area of publishing right now. I will pass on this author's work, but I do think he is a talented writer and should pursue publication on a list, which specialises in this sort of fiction.

Sorry I haven’t got back to you on this sooner. I’ve had a look at the manuscript and regret to say that it is not suitable for Voyager. Daniel has put together a dramatic story, though, and I’m sure the many visitors to your website will enjoy reading it.

This almost constitutes almost two years worth of hard-work and endless waiting.
I believe my work to be at the forefront of a new creative movement classified as gothic fantasy; a seamless blend of horror and fantasy - mythic story telling interlaced with more adult themes, lending it a darker edge. A brilliant example of this is ‘Pan’s Labyrinth.’ This new style of fantasy has been made world-famous by the aforementioned Guillermo Del Toro, and Peter Jackson. I believe the industry, especially in light of the recession is operating a closed-door policy, where future works of art will be left out in the cold. I believe you; the public have a right to know what is happening. This is the real story behind the story. This is the dream that refuses to die.
