more »If you are a Jew [a born Jew or a Jew by choice] and are sick and tired of ultra-orthodox fundamentalist hateful purported Jews dominating every internet site on Judaism, this is the place for you. Haredi are not automatically barred, but when they start stating or implying that they are the one and only "true Jews" and everyone else is evil or ignorant they will be removed.
This is also the place for Gentiles [Christians, Muslims or Secular people] who believe that the extremist fundamentals in their midst are destroying civilization.
Finally, and most important, this is the place for intellectual discussions about the history, evolution and "theology" of Judaism, and for nonlibelous comparisons between Judaism and other religions. [Again, criticisms at the level of "fair game" and with an expectation that the criticism may be turned on the criticizer are welcome. Hateful diatribes are not. For that offense you will be warned twice and removed the third time.]
A warning for those of you who are "sensitive" and want everyone to assure you that "you have a right to your opinions" no matter how incoherent and just plain silly such opinions may be: Your administrator in this Group has a well deserved reputation as a curmudgeon and training as an analytic philosopher. While personal attacks will be strongly discouraged, attacks on intellectual or "faith" positions are encouraged and will be frequently engaged in by your administrator. This is not kindergarten. This is a place for well reasoned discussions between adults who are not afraid of having their pre-existing prejudices challenged. If you can't separate yourself from your current beliefs go elsewhere.
