In Support of Team Peeta
I started re-reading The Hunger Games and I'm noticing things I didn't the first time through.
Katniss actually says she's never thought of Gale in a romantic way.
Gale and Madge have a "testing the waters" moment on Madge's doorstep, when Gale says her dress is pretty and she responds that she needs to look her best for when the tributes are chosen. Katniss observes this and feels jealous, but only because "good hunting partners are hard to find." Initially, I thought this was just silly denial of a budding romance, but now I think they are more like best friends/siblings.
Katniss and Peeta defend the other's abilities in front of Haymitch. Katniss remembers that Peeta came in second in wrestling (only losing to his brother). She says something along the lines of "Apparently I've been keeping up with the baker's son, after all."
I loved Cinna the first time through, but I appreciate him so much more now. It seems as if so many things are lining up for Katniss and Peeta to be revolutionaries: their spirit that pierces Haymitch's drunken fog that first day on the train, Cinna, in his first year as a stylist actually choosing to be assigned to District 12, and at the last moment deciding for Katniss and Peeta to hold hands on their chariot ride--a rebellious move to present them as partners.
