    reading recomendations

I'm looking for new authors to read. I like Nora Roberts really well. I also have discovered Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I like a good relationship driven love story with some humor. I like a good "love scene" here and there but I'm a pg-pg13 kinda gal. I'd rather use my imagination than have every sight, smell, and caress described in detail.
I read contemorary, some historical, some paranormal, it's all good.
    Any suggestions??

Have you tried Jayne Ann Krentz?

I would second the recommendation for Jayne Anne Krentz. She also writes historicals under the name of Amanda Quick and you might like those, too.

You might also try Lynn Kurland. Some of her books would fall into the paranormal category as they involve some time travel. I think she is a very relationship-oriented writer whose stories are romantic but most definitely in the "warm/kisses" category. I love that she can tell a romantic love story without all of the sex. You can check my shelf for the titles as there is a long list.

Another author you might try is Robyn Carr. Her books are contemporary and very relationship-driven. Two series I have enjoyed are the Virgin River Series - Virgin River, Shelter Mountain, and Whispering Rock; and the other is the Grace Valley Series - Down By the River, Just Over the Mountain, and Deep In the Valley.

Two other authors you might check into if you like a historical mystery-oriented book would be Tasha Alexander and Deanna Raybourn. They both set their books in the late Victorian Era and have strong female lead characters.

Have you tried Kristan Higgins? Her books "Catch of the Day" and "Fools Rush In" are funny and sweet. They fall in the PG range. She has a new book coming out in August. I can't wait.

I recommend a couple of features from AAR proper you might want to consider:

If You Like... can help you find authors to try if you like other authors, like SEP. Also, our Special Title Listing called favorite Funnies might be good.

You might also like Rachel Gibson. I would also suggest the feature at AAR of Favorite Books by Favorite Authors when considering a new author. It will list up AAR readers favorite books by a given author.

I'm a big fan of SEP, haven't tried Nora yet. A few of the contemporary authors I've enjoyed are: Jennifer Crusie, Rachel Gibson and Susan Donovan.

Also, I just read Tall Tales and Wedding Veils by Jane Graves. I really enjoyed it a lot. It's my first book by her and I'm looking forward to trying some more.

For humor, I love SEP - l consider similar type of books to be by Susan Andersen and Rachel Gibson and some of Linda Howard (Mr. Perfect, Open Season, To Die For) - but none are PG 13, IMHO. All are fairly rich in the graphic love scene writing, so they might not fit your criteria.

For PG 13 and excellent story telling, great relationship tension but not much graphic description, I recommend LaVyrle Spencer's Morning Glory and That Camden Summer. But while they contain some smile-inducing moments, they are not humorous. Morning Glory isn't funny at all - very heart wrenching but wonderful HEA. I used a couple of hankies, especially during the WWII section. That Camden Summer is lighter, but not comedy. Both heros are very beta-guys, not alpha at all, and still very lovable. I personally like a well described, graphic love scene but loved both these books even without that.

Melinda P said, "but none are PG 13, IMHO. All are fairly rich in the graphic love scene writing, so they might not fit your criteria." Yes, I agree with this for my rec's of Jennifer Crusie and Susan Donovan, as well. So be warned.[br/
Otoh, I think Crusie, Donovan and Gibson have a similar type of humor to SEP that I like.
Also, I just remembered Sophie Kinsella's: Can You Keep A Secret? and The Undomestic Goddess, which I thought were ROFL funny, but definitely PG-13or maybe more PG.
