living up a holler?
Maybe someone here can help. I read a new book, somewhere between 1989 and 1999. The main character was a woman/girl who lived with her husband/boyfriend? in a city. For financial reasons, they moved "up a holler". There were descriptions of other people living there, I seem to recall an abandoned house or houses where they scavenged some things or just looked at them. I think she had to walk everywhere. She might have been pregnant.
It seemed like until the very end, it could have been set any time in the latter 1900s, however, towards the end there is a scene with someone riding an ATV.
From my memory of the new books at the library, I believe the authoer's name was in the first half of the alphabet. I also think the author might have had 3 names.
I can remember thinking that I would never forget this book, but I have been looking for almost 10 years now. Any help would be appreciated. This has just driven me crazy. Thanks so much!
