    Frustration

    Save Changes Cancel
Oh, I was so happy. I got a notice saying a wish list book was available. It was an obscure book and I had been waiting a long time. I happily clicked the 'send to my address' button. Two days later I got a notice the transaction had been cancelled. Arghhhh!

Another frustration, people that wrap the entire package in tape and it takes forever just to find a starting point to cut into it.

Oh that is a bummer. I have had that happen a couple of times.
Koren I like to much tape than not enough tape. I have had a couple lost in mail books and just because it was not wrapped well enough with tape.

I make sure I tape the bottom of the envelopes because I did have some get lost but now I have some envelopes the priority shipping ones that I got for free through the post office. I just hope they don't charge too much when I got to ship

Ok, I'll agree, it is better to have too much tape rather than not enough. Just leave me a spot to stick the scissors into to get it off!!!!

I have a frustration to share......

I recently gathered up about 30 or so of my beloved books (I keep books that I like even if I don't necessarily re-read them) along with about 15 or 20 books that my daughter didn't want anymore (children's chapter books and such) and took them to Half Price Books to sell. I wanted some extra $$ to put towards a date night with my husband. I've also been short on money lately so I've been limiting the books I post on pbs because I don't have extra $$ to mail out books right now. Anyway, several of the books I took in were very popular PNR books and I know they put those right on their half-price shelf for $3.99 each. And even if they sold each book I brought in for $1 on clearance they would make about $40-$50 bucks. Guess how much $$ they gave me.................$12.75. Rip. Off. I will never take them books again.

OH that is horrible. I don't blame you, I would never take them books again either. I would have just keep the books and walked out. So sorry for you frustration.

A quarter apiece for books they sell for several dollars???? That IS a ripoff! You could do better on a garage sale! The last time I was at a used book store, which was several years ago, they were giving one fourth of the cover price and selling them for half price. Only problem was, I dont think they gave cash, only credit for more books.

There was a reallly great used book store near my office that I used to go to all the time. Their trade credit wasn't too bad but they were really picky about the books they took in. Unfortunately they closed down a couple months ago. :(

The only reason I made the deal was because I was trying to get a little extra cash for our date night. As a mom of 4 kiddos the $12.75 was better than nothing. But I will never sell books there again.

The used bookstore that I go to doesn't give you credit for books but they are super cheap and will offer coupons and such. Plus they have donation bins EVERYWHERE so it is super easy to donate to them!

I'm surprised they gave you that much. I may shop at Half Price Books occasionally, but I don't take books there. I would rather give them away than take the pennies they pay for a book.

Yes. Now I hope the book is worth it. Its called A Long Stones Throw and is by Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes) brother Alfie. I only wanted it because Frank is one of my all-time favorite authors.

The saga continues. I found out the person that offered the book a second time WAS the same person and they AGAIN marked it unable to send. I think if this happens again I should report them.

A few nights ago I tried to post about 30 books. On about 12 of them when I put in the ISB number a different (older book) comes up so I can't list it unless I do it as a "book with no ISB". That was frustration.

I also had this happen just the other day. Got a notice that a book was available, clicked I wanted it, and then the next day, I get a notification back with a huh?. Totally did not know what that was all about, probably a newbie that didn't know what was going on when they listed it.

Ok, this is a minor frustration compared to those posted above, but I've just requested the second book in a series that I am dying to read. It took the member 3 days to acknowledge my request and then ONLY with a note that the book will be mailed sometime before the 21st. I try to mail all of my books immediately (or within 1-3 days depending on weekend and holidays). I want my book!!

That is frustrating. If they wait til the 21st to mail it and it takes a week, that will be 2 weeks you will have to wait.

I try to mail in a day or two but right now I have a book that someone requested a couple of days ago, Another one I'm waiting for the member to mark that they want it, another one I'm waiting for a PM back that they will take it with an inscription in the front cover. I try to make it all in one trip to the post office so the first person will have to wait a few days until I get it sent.

I know that can be frustrating, especially when you're dying to find out what happens next. I have been there myself. But try to be understanding. I've had to do that a few times because I have a tight-tight budget (married momma of 4 here). I use pbs because I not only can't afford to pay full price for all the books I read but because it just makes sense to trade at a discount. However, sometimes a book is requested from me and my budget that week just wont allow a trip to the post office. And at $4 a gallon for gas I make as few trips driving around as possible. So I accept the request and mail as soon as I can. :)

@koren56: Ah, I wish my bookshelf was that popular!

@ RomansGirl: Oh no, I completely understand! I also considered that the person might not have access to a post office except once a week or month. I've been patient up until now! The anticipation only makes it better! I commend you for working books into your tight budget. My husband and I don't have children, but we are struggling while my husband looks for work. I am employed, but like you said, with the rising gas prices (grocery prices, utility prices, etc) it gets tough!

I will always be thrifty. I love a good deal!! On clothes, groceries and especially books!! :)

Oh yeah, and how is this for frustrating.....I went on pbs to wish list a book today that is only available in hardback (so no way am I paying full price). I'm number 463 in line. I will NEVER receive this book, LOL. I'll be watching out for it at Half Price Books and even then will probably have to wait for it to be in paperback. ::sighs::

Agggggh! That IS frustrating! What is the name of the book you're wish-listing? I'll try to keep an eye out when I visit our local used bookstores.

I sometimes use the extension date to give myself some wiggle room. Usually I get them mailed right away anyway, but like to cover my tendency towards procrastination.

I just had that happen myself. I had been waiting so so long, and got so excited to get the message that I was receiving the book, and now feel very let down.
