    Earth Day's Solution

I've come across a passage in "The Official Earth Day Guide to Planet Repair" that hit home for me. It's the purpose I feel I have in greening my life. It's more than just composting and recycling, it's a lifestyle.

I quote: "Whenever progress has been made on a global environment problem, it has been due to a worldwide outpouring of public sentiment that overpowers those with a vested interest in the status quo."

According to the author, Denis Hayes, we can make changes with a two-pronged approach: 1) take control of your own life, and 2) pressure politicians to change how they run the world.

The book is full of facts and suggestions that cut through the politically-correct chatter and drive to the heart of the issue.

I'm not much of one for political causes, but I'm seeing the need to become more involved. Which is what "Reading Green" is all about!
