    Writing what you know: should doctors stick to medical subject matter?

    Somerset Maugham's most famous character, Philip Carey in Of Human Bondage, was a doctor like him. Michael Crichton's most famous character is a 20 foot Tyrannosaurus Rex.

    Are doctors better writers when they stick to what they know?

    No, they can write about life outside of their profession. All of us have more than one role in life: husbands, wives, parents, siblings, etc.
