Ancient Egyptian Dances & Arab Music
I have been trying to understand the music I am hearing- trying to learn how to see it the way a musician does so I can better dance it out for others to see.
I have been reading ancient Egyptian Dances because it has several illustrations from ancient artwork on dancing. I like to see the defining moments in the dance and try to use those classic poses in my own dancing.
And also Music of the Arabs. This book actually comes with a cd for you to listen to which is nice.
It is hard for me to wrap my head around- the history and the concepts of tuning music to the singer,s voice as opposed to a standardized scale of pitches blows my mind. No wonder it is so difficult to notate and convert to the Western musical scale.
I wish I had a better understanding of Western music to begin with- I have only the faintest real understanding of that. My understanding of music in general has up until this latest interest, been very intuitive.
If anyone has any suggestions or wants to share how they were able to grasp music better- please do tell!
