Movies You've Seen in July
Started by Ann M, Wednesday, July 2 2008. Last post Wednesday, July 30 2008.

New month, new thread, more movies! What have you seen on the small and big screen?

Feast of Love w/ Morgan Freeman & Greg Kinear: I'm a sap, but I was all teared up at the end... Very nicely put together movie with multiple plot threads. Very much a lovey-dovey movie with strong philosophical undertones.

Sweeney Todd: Pretty good, though I tend to fall asleep during musicals and this was no exception.

30 Days of Night: Not as bad as a good portion of the crap out there calling itself horror. More gore than necessary (same with Sweeney Todd, but in ST it was so over the top as to be amusing), but watchable, and ALMOST touching in the end.

re: Feast of Love
hmmm... philosophical ei? I think I would like this... I'm gonna check this out.

re: 30 days of night --
isn't it the whole thing just happened in one night?! I don't like the ending... I don't get it. why did he have to do it? if he just waited for a few more seconds/minutes (i think), he could have also been alive... (is it not?)

Supposedly 30 days of night takes place over the month in the FAR north when the sun does not come up for 30 days. That's why the bad guys like it. There were cues along the way that said (Day 7) and (Day 18), etc... And if he hadn't done it, the wife would have had some troubles... Don't wanna say more and spoil it.

I just saw Feast of Love this past weekend. Looooooved it!!! I was sobbing at the end too : ( I love almost anything with Morgan Freeman in it.

Gabriel: a movie about the Arc Angels coming to Earth to save mankind from The Fallen. For a sci-fi with a cast of un-knowns it was really good!!! I would watch it again.

There Will Be Blood: odd but interesting. I'm sorry to say that I liked the last scene...teehee...(I am SO going to hell...)

I watched 30 Days of Night last night...although it wasn't too bad I thought the vampires were just awful. But they fit the feel of the movie so I don't know what esle I could have expected. This weekend is going to be a hot one here in PHX, so I'm sure I'll have lots more movies to add next week!

Let me know if anyone has seen Hancock and can give me a rundown of whether to see it or not. I have a free pass and I need to use it by August. I need a good movie recommendation. I am not a fan of Angelina and not sure about Get Smart....

Watched The Other Boleyn Girl last night...I can understand why many people who read the book disliked it. It was very, very choppy...I don't think there was one scene that lasted more than 3 minutes! Very disappointing because both Scarlett Johansen and Natalie Portman are such good actresses...this could have been a great movie.

I read somewhere that the extended dvd has lots of deleted scenes that help the movie flow better, I was really disapointed in the movie when I saw it.

"Fool's Gold"

i wasn't sure that this was going to be worth watching after reading opinions of some of the members here on this group... but decided to give it a go anyway...
i thought it was ok... an enjoyable adventure, but not a totally unique idea.

and, i kno it sounds kinda lame, but i did see Wall-E! It was weird, but it was a very good movie! it was kinda an eyeopener to wat the world could become!

Monsters Inc.--I guess I'm just a big sap, because even this one got me tearing up at the end, and Morgan Freeman was completely uninvolved. My wife-to-be had been telling me about it for the last two years, because she named a cat after the big blue John Goodman monster, Sully. It's a female cat, so it's weird, but it IS adorable when the little animated girl calls the great big monster, "Kitty."
