HM King always warned against risks of altering Al-Quds' legal status, FM

United Nations - H.M. King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as Chairman of Al-Quds Committee "has always warned the international community against the risks associated with altering the legal status of Al-Quds," Moroccan FM, Taib Fassi Fihri underlined on Saturday.

H.M the King "has also been urging the influential international powers to speedily apply the requirements of international legitimacy in order to preserve the religious, cultural and spiritual features of this holy city, in a manner that would lead to activating the peace process," the minister said in an address before the 64th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Speaking of Morocco's belief that the peace process is the only viable option in the Middle East, Fassi Fihri said the North African kingdom "has constructively taken part with a sense of responsibility in all efforts of the international community aimed at reactivating the peace process on solid bases."

Voicing the north African country's appreciation of the American administration efforts and the encouraging stances of the U.S. President Barrack Obama to this end, Fassi Fihri stressed the kingdom's hope that perseverance efforts would continue "to overcome obstacles to the peace process along with all other international efforts including European ones."

These efforts will be productive only if the illegal practices of Israel including the establishment of settlements in the Palestinian occupied territories and the unfair blockade against the Palestinian people are halted, he said.

On the situation in Iraq, Fassi Fihri voiced Morocco's support for the unity of this country. “This sensitive region really needs constructive efforts away from any form of meddling," he said.

“The achievement of peace through conflict resolution should be based on the principles of peaceful resolution, equality among States and respect for their independence and territorial integrity in conformity with the Charter of the United Nations," Fassi Fihri explained.
