You Must Choose: Fairy Tales
Started by LibraryCin, Tuesday, July 22 2008. Last post Thursday, July 24 2008.

The admins are currently very busy with TITTM, so I asked if I could get my favourite game going before we miss it for this month - You Must Choose.

The first person posts a choice of two books (which of course must pertain to this month's tag - Fairy Tales). The next person must choose one of the two books by either choosing the one they liked the best when they read it OR by choosing the one that appeals most to them to read (if they haven't read them).

Then, the respondent must offer a choice of their own for the next person.

So, I'll offer the first choice:
Fairest / Gail Carson Levine
OR
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister / Gregory Maguire

I haven't read Fairest, so I'll go with Confessions-a very good book imo

Book of Lost Things-Connelly or Book of Flying- Keith Miller?

I go for Ella Enchanted. Didn't read it yet, but it's on the shelf, ready to eat...

Un Lun Dun by China Mielville
or
The Neverending Story by Michael Ende

The Neverending Story. It's great! BTW, my daughter named her first child Bastian, after the character in this story! I don't know anything about Un Lun Dun.

Which of these two versions of Beauty and the Beast would you prefer?:

Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast, by Robin McKinley
or
The Fire Rose, by Mercedes Lackey

Since I started the thread, I didn't get to choose, so I'm going to go again! Am I the only one who "researches" the choices? I look up each book and read the overview (and sometimes the reviews, if there's not enough info in the overview) before choosing one.

Anyway, I choose The Fire Rose.

A Wolf at the Door and Other Retold Fairy Tales / Ellen Datlow
OR
Not One Damsel in Distress / Jane Yolen

No, you're not the only one who's "researches" the choices. I do the same, because I like to read all of yours reviews. Did you research Un Lun Dun? You should, it's a fantastic book and I think you will like it, specially when you like fairy tales/fantasy.

Hi Monique. I do research, but in this game, usually only for the choice I`m making (though not always). Since you have mentioned it specifically, I will look into Un Lun Dun. Thanks!
