1. How do you approach the creative process?

I have a few discussion topics I thought I'd throw out for anyone who wants to participate. Maybe we can help each other and learn something new ourselves!

Most of the time I get an idea and have to go right to it. Sometimes, though, If I force myself to create things start out really simple, and before you know it I have caught the bug, and paper and ink is flying! There are times, however, I just can't make anything happen. That is when I start reorganizing my supplies : )

I thought this was interesting I found on another board:

I do have a way of splitting up the steps of making a project from beginning to end. This works for me
because I only need to focus on one step or stage of the project at a time, rather than the whole project.

Step 1 - Background (choose substrate and start applying colour and texture (Ink , paper, paint with gesso, molding paste, etc underneath)

Step 2 - Feature Image (Is it going to be stamped direct onto the Background, stamped onto a new piece and layered, image transfer onto fabric, collaged work, abstract all over or multiple images?) i do find at this point my feature tends to be people/faces or shapes.

Step 3 - Embellish. This is when you add all those finishing touches with the masses of stuff you have collected (rub ons, more stamping, words, buttons, fibres/ ribbon, chipboard shapes, german scrap, charms...the list is endless)

I usually set the tone with a cd by a classical guitarist Jeffrey Steele ~ and puts me into a focus state as well as my yorkie who sits in her bed near my chair ~ then, I too begin with the background for canvas, artboard, paper ~ select items needed and then begin the process ~ then step back & explore my art supplies that might enhance the creative piece ~ I try to usually leave a project for the next day to continue on rather then a new project each morning ~ it is a catalyst to keep the flow moving ~ Carol M
