  Thanks for this update. The issues I was having with volumes of series being listed as editions of other volumes has been partially resolved. But now all of the books that used to be listed as other editions have the small blue icon with the number two even before I re-added the books to my shelf. When I do add it says that I have two editions even though when I go to the editions page I only have one added. The other edition is just blank and says "No description". To see if adding it then removing it would solve the problem I added the "ghost" edition then the icon suddenly becomes three. Then when I remove it it goes back to two. So the problem isn't solved. Whats up with that?

  Was the removal of tags also part of the update? I notice that many of my tags have disappeared.

    Honya--you shelf should look much better now (minus the #2's on the book covers). Our developers are continuing to refine the changes & updates to our data and they've fixed the bug you were experiencing.

  Yes, Honya--When we made updates to the book and author data some things (like tags) were affected. You'll notice that many of the books which used to be incorrectly combined (like all the books in a series appearing under one title instead of being separate books) have been fixed. As a results, some information you had for a book may be "moved" to a different book in the series. Our developers have worked hard to make sure there are as few bumps in the road as possible. You should find the overall quality of the book and author data on books is better then it was before. We'll continue to work on tools that allow you to make any additional corrections or edits to book/author data.

  As part of this process were titles removed? I've noticed a drop in my inventory although I haven't deleted any books. I had been expecting to use Shelfari as a master list of my library, but if titles can fall off Shelfari, then it doesn't serve its purpose.

    Hi CamryMyst--We didn't remove titles from our catalog. However, many books that used to be (incorrectly) combined as editions have been separated. This also means that some editions of books which used to be separated have been combined. When this happens you should see a number (to indicate the # of editions you have) on the book cover.   The page for my favorite author, Deborah Smith, and all her books on Shelfari now use the name "R.N. Deborah Smith".

  Don't have a clue why this "R.N." part is showing up now and that picture is NOT this author.

    Yep - there have been several postings about this across several Shelfari support groups. Except for the "ratings" sort, none of them are working well.

    I have the same problem. Some of my books stayed in order by author but there are a whole bunch that moved to the front. It seems quite random, but there must be some logic to it. I tried to figure out how to manually rearrange them, but the instructions don't seem to match my screen options. I am new at Shelfari and really, really love it, so I'm hoping this will work out.

  I had my book on my author page and it disappeared along with the bunches of people who had it listed on their pages so now I don't know who used to have my book on their page, plus I can't even figure out how to add it to my own author page. How can I add it to my author page for starters?

    It will probably work itself out; I think there was/is technical work going on at the site. This has been happening off and on to different parts of the Shelfari site, but so far it has all gone back to the original setting once the work is finished.

  I've been having some problems trying to import books and and different covers and was wondering if you could help me?
  I'm from Denmark and would like to import my Danish books. The thing is I can't seem to add a cover. How do I do that? And also, some of the books that I find have the wrong covers, how can I upload the correct one? It would be easy for me to scan and upload, but I cannot find the option anywhere. It also seems like there is no way to edit the information on my editions. Is this not possible?

    Currently users cannot change information or upload/change a cover after a book has been created.

    But admins have stated that it is a feature in the works.

  Not sure if part of this process, but just attempted to create a book. It did not take me to the second page to upload the dust jacket photo and is currently appearing on my profile page as a blank square (title and author did not populate it).

  I guess I wasn't clear. I was CREATING A BOOK entry. Previously page one of the process is where you enter the title, author, publisher, edition, etc and when you saved it the next page gave you the ability to upload a dust jacket cover. If you did not provide this the book was created with a dark grey square with the book title and author's name. Today when I created the book and saved the first page IT DID NOT GO TO the photo page. The creation process was complete and the book created was blank so when you looked at a copy of the book like on my profile page it's just a grey square. Period. When you click on the blank dust jacket there is absolutely no information that had been entered (which in this case had been IN THE BLOOD by J.A. Kerley). I am aware that currently we do not have the ability to amend existing entries.

    Thank you so much! It is still not easy though ^^; Especially because of a lot of features I would like to see do not exist - like creating an entry on a translated book (which is what I have been doing) and being able to list original title, first published etc.

    I had this happen before and no one could explain why it happened. I tried several times with the same result as you. What I ended up trying was not putting in the ISBN and then it worked! My ISBN didn't look like the standard, so I wondered if that was the trouble. I was told that couldn't be the problem, well, it got me to upload my book properly and add a cover.

    Thank you. I tried to create a book in the usual manner with ISBN's (both 10 and 13) and both times it the process DID NOT advance to page two in order to allow a dust jacket to be uploaded and both times created a completely blank book. I tried again without an ISBN and it worked fine.

  I'm a new author/reader here on Shelfari and I'm trying to link my author page to my personal profile but when I click the link button I'm taken to the help page. So I guess my questions are: 1) How do I link my author page to my personal profile and 2) all of my books are not showing on my author page although I am credited as the author, so how do I correct that?

  Any help would be greatly appreciated - I love what I've seen so far!

    The easiest way to get to your Author Unbound page is via your "More" tab on your home page. Select the "My Authors" link from that tab. All the authors of all the books on your personal shelf will be listed. Each item on the list is the link to the unbound page for that author. I'm assuming you have your own books on your shelf?

    Once on that unbound page, you can edit all your want.

    You can also edit the book page for each title so that you are the primary author (some of these pages are still under construction since the last update.)

  I'm having the same problem as CamryMyst... I have been taken once to the "upload cover" page and then when I tried to create a new book that page didn't appear and now I'm stuck with a grey book even if I have the cover.

  This should be a basic feature.

    Did you read all the replies? It seems there is a glitch when you put the ISBN in, but if you try it without, usually the cover will be added to you book just fine. :)

  This is a great site, even if there are some glitches. I like the shelf for my books, and I like the option of a list of my books. I like the ability to arrange the shelves by author, but I have a few out of order on the bottom shelves. I'm not sure why that has happened. Is there any way to arrange the list alphabetically by author and print it? It could be a really handy reference for checking against my physical bookshelves.

    Hi Snooky--You can download a full list of your books by selecting "Export my books" from the Shelf tab drop down menu.

    When you say that authors aren't sorting properly, you can help to fix that by going to the book page and making sure the Contributor section has the correct author marked as primary contributor (which affects the sort order on your shelf).

    Thank you. I'm fairly new to Shelfari (though a fan and recommending it to others). I had seen the export tab and dismissed it at the time as an export of the shelf to another site.

    It exports nicely. One thing, though, since the sort on the shelf by author sorts by last name (usually), the names probably are split into fields in your data base. I tried sort alpha on my spreadsheet and it sorted by first name. If the names are split into fields, is it possible to split them for export? Since I have my library more or less sorted by author, an alpha-by-author list would be very helpful. Also easier for my family when they want to buy me a gift - they can easily see whether I have a given book or not. Of course, they can also check my wish list now! (Love that wish list.)

    BTW, Amanda - don't know if you saw it, but about two months ago I had a problem with five books not being in correct order, and I asked about it here. Yesterday, I checked (haven't checked for about a week) and they were correctly displayed. Whatever happened, thank you!

    This is the easiest way I know of to print a list. Sadly, All Books is not an option, just, Plan to Read, Wish List, etc... It will show all books in ABC order, but not author.

    I actually found this handy last weekend, when we took the jaunt to Half price books, and printed my Wish list. The poor cashier told me she just stocked her section and I cleared her out. :)

  I am frustrated. Why can't we organize our books on the "All Books" list? Now my series are out of order because I added them backwards. I want to keep it organized but I cannot do so if I can't move them around on the "All Books" list.

  Hi,

  are other foreign language books going to be added at some point? For an example, take Väinö Linna's Tuntematon sotilas (Finnish). The author name is wrong (Va?ino? Linna) and I can't correct it (encoding problem, obviously). I'm guessing the problem is that Shelfari doesn't have authoritative (good) sources for Finnish books at the moment.

  A Question or may be a Suggestion:

  Can't there be a field, added to author's page, where we can add the name of an author in its original language?
  I mean at the time I'm trying to all the names in English, and there may be different spellings of an authors name who is not English! And when I'm searching for an author, I should try different spellings. I think this could be helpful!
