No plans for 4th of July - we usually stay home and grill out. But we are going to a "4th of July Eve" party tomorrow night.

Fireworks at the lake on my campus with my mom and grandparents

I love parking on top of one of the parking garages in the Medical Center with a picnic. We put the radio on the Symphony which plays live along with the fireworks at the Miller Outdoor Theater. From the parking garage, we can see the Miller Outdoor Theater fireworks, some of the fireworks downtown, and at least seven or eight other fireworks around town. We don't bother going downtown or to Miller Outdoor Theater itself anymore. The parking and the crowds are just too much. The downtown one, though, does include booths and live concerts. The Miller Outdoor Theater one has the Houston Symphony live. I'm sure that other places like Discovery Green near the George R Brown Convention Center will have something too. It's too bad that Astroworld closed down. They used to have fireworks we could see from our house.

We are going to my Mom's house and BBQ for the fourth. There was some talk about having a ban in our area but they seem to have given up after the derecho went thru Friday night. Heard the fireworks were still on. We do have a wildfire burning on the mountain in the next town over and the thunderstorms we have been having don't seem to have helped so I thought they might enforce a ban.

We went to the beach during the day and then the really crowded downtown event. Haven't done that in years, and the reason is...too many people, no place to sit unless you get there really early - so we wandered, Zoe was wishing we still had friends with apartment and roof. It was still fun and we grabbed a tram for the ride back - and it took us all over the place - much longer than walking. we waved to all the walkers, it was the most fun. then ice cream...always good

We've just moved and we don't have a bracket yet so we didn't put it up this year. We've actually never had a bracket but at the last house we had an outside wall we hung it from and our two suits of armor (that guard our door, natch. LOL) both wave small flags in one hand and hold a patriotic whirley gig in the other.

Years ago, when my little brother lived with us and I was married to Mr. Jack A**, our house was always full of friends and family. Most nights found at least one person camped out on the living room floor. It got to the point that I sincerely longed for just one night with no company. Now, Mr. Wonderful and I enjoy our privacy and would both be miserable if there were people constantly popping in.

When we moved a couple weekends ago. We had a friend stay the weekend. He was the only one out of all the many friends who promised to help us move that actually showed up. *sigh* We did have a couple of friends show up the day after we finished moving. Really?!?!?! Did I mention that I'm a bit too honest? It didn't take them long to realize that we didn't have time for chit chatting because the three of us still had too much to do.
We haven't invited anyone over since moving. I'm close to being done getting everything all in order and when I'm finished we plan on having several friends and family over. We'll grill and then enjoy making s'mores around our new fire pit whilst making homemade ice cream.

      We loved Brave too.

Today we saw Moonrise Kingdom and it was really wonderful
set in 1965 on a small island. Frances McDormand, Bill Murray
      sweet and really under advertised.

Then snuck into Ted on daughter insistance..her friend saw this movie
it was rank and offensive, can not believe that my friend took her son
sat there for a few minutes in shock from language and all aweful things
sad I can never UNsee that! I am not a prude at all, but too much of the rhymes with YUCK!

I'd lurve to have one of those theaters that serve actual food close to us. There is one in Downers Grove (a suburb in Chicago) where my oldest daughter lives. They even are served by a waiter/ess!
For us, it's just not a proper movie night if we don't buy at least drinks and a huuuuuuge popcorn smothered in layers of butter..........or whatever that 'heart attack waiting to happen' is that they use.

A side note: Since the last time I was able to enjoy some time with my friends here my oldest daughter has given me some wonderful news....no, she's not pregnant. That was my first thought, too. lol After we visited in June they began to do some serious thinking about how much they miss their families and friends down here in TN. They are planning on moving back home just as soon as they get a couple of bills caught up and paid a few months ahead so they don't have to worry about that for awhile while they look for work. My brother is being promoted to store manager at Papa John's and has said he can hire Heather. And James can work with my step-father while he looks for something full time. I'm so excited!!!

Barefoot right now. I can't decide if flip flops are my favorite shoes or the strappy sandels that go through your toes. I waited years for those shoes to come back in style and now that they are back I'm in shoe heaven. I have waaaaaay too many pairs.............unfortunately for Mr. Angela my collection is incomplete. ;-)

My current bag is black but I change it up weekly at least...confuses my kids when I ask them to grab my purse. :) That's a great deal Linda....I love grabbing bags at the Thrift store too....have found so many nice bags with the tags still on them or in excellent condition. Guess some people get them as gifts and never use them or something.

It's my favorite purse only because I admired it but wouldn't buy it (for myself, anyway) and Lynn snuck back to the store and surprised me with it later. It's those little things that mean so much.

Up at 5:45 for the first young'un to arrive at 6. It's so nice not to have to get up 2 hours before work just to get ready. Take my meds, brush my teeth, brush my hair if I have time, and turn the tv to Dr. Phil. Between that time and 7:30 the rest of the kiddies get here. By 8 I'm turning on the oven for breakfast, taking out the dog, turning on the coffee pot, and filling sippy cups. The first two kiddies here are early enough that they both go back to sleep so about this time I'm waking them up. Next I check diapers and make sure all the bigger kids have used the bathroom. Then it's time to let the dog back in and put out food and water. Then the kids eat breakfast while I concentrate on emptying the coffee pot one cup at a time. By this time the kiddies are good and awake and wound up and ready to go.

Well for these past few weeks my dad got a puppy, so I've been puppy-sitting all the time.
My dad gets up at 6 to take out the puppy and feed, her, and I slowly start to wake up then. He leaves for work at about 7, and after a few more minutes of waking up, I go play with the puppy since she's got tons of energy by this point. At about 9 I take her out again to let her go potty and get a chance to tire her out a bit more. After that while she is resting I get a chance to shower and eat breakfast by about 10. This should only be my schedule for about 2 more weeks, until I'll actually have a sort of job and won't be able to puppy-sit in the morning anymore.

Thanks! It's just in time to find out that the Tahoe doesn't need just a tire balance or an alignment. Apparently one of the shocks is broken, the other shock is on it's last legs, and there's a good sized leak in the power steering. I guess that would account for it driving strangely.

Glasses. I tried a trial pair of contacts and I had alot of problems getting them in. When I finally ripped one I decided they weren't for me because mine would have been expensive because I have astigmatism. Good decision. The doc said most people rip at least one within the first year of getting them.

I didn't know that about contacts for astigmatism, Amy. Another good reason to stay away from them. I ended up needing bi-focals (at the age of 38!!) and I still have a hard time finding the 'sweet spot' sometimes. It aggrivates me sooooo much!

It depends on your definition of friends.
If you are talking about a daily or weekly physical person that I keep in contact with, no.
If you count keeping in contact with people out of town and the bunch of you, tons.

      Family ... loads :)

No. Most of my friends moved out of town when we graduated high school and I don't make new friends easily because I'm so quiet. Many people think I'm a snob when they first meet me. I'm not, I'm just...quiet.

Years ago, after having an outpatient procedure, I was still a bit loopy. I slipped on a patch of wet concrete and just didn't have the reflexes to even try to catch myself. I bent my tail bone but the doc said it would have been better had I broken it. I still can't sit in one position for very long or my tail bone starts throbbing.

30 was old. 50 was ancient. My how our perceptions change the older we get.
Grown ups could do as they pleased and tell you to do anything they pleased no matter how 'dumb' it seemed. They also all had the right to spank a bad child, whether said child was theirs' or not. Then, no matter how unfair it seemed, when they told your parents what you had done, you got yet another spanking. Being an adult meant you got to choose what tv program was watched. You also got to pick what to have for dinner, no matter how gross it was. Then you could make the kids sit at the table 'until every single bite is gone' (something I hated and never did to my own girls). Grown ups had all the money and if they told you they had only $100 and couldn't get you that toy you so wanted they were just being mean because, after all, they were rich.........they had $100!
On the other hand............they were the ones who surprised you with that toy you had been longing for 'just because'. They were sad with you when you cried about that mean boy at school who kept pulling your hair and tripping you when you walked by and they knew just what to say to make you smile, then quietly giggle, then guffaw as their tickling ended in a hug. They were there to hold you when your tummy felt yucky and there to hold the 'sick bucket' for you when you got sick. They seemed to magically produce a nice cold rag to wipe your face when you were done and it didn't matter how often you asked them to get it cold again, they did it without complaint. They checked on you often to make sure you didn't need anything and they let you eat all the popcycles and jello you wanted. They were the ones who planned your birthday party, buying just the exact cake you wanted even though it was expensive just because store bought cake was soooooo much better than homemade (what was I thinking?). When you begged them to let you have a slumber party, every once in awhile they relented without too much groveling on your part and even bought the coolest snacks and drinks and let you rent far more movies than you could watch in a single night. They even left you and your freinds to do your own thing, only interrupting to ask if you wanted anything else to eat or drink and to make sure everyone had a pillow and blanket. It made you swell with pride when your friends jealously whispered that you had the coolest parents.
I'm not even going to get into what being an adult meant to me during my teen years.
I'm sure I just heard a passle of ladies sigh in relief. :-D

My dad is a chemist that worked for the agriculture department in the university.

My daughter is 21 now but when she was age 7, two of her classmates started their periods.
By the time they were 9, four of her classmates had started.

This means that there are children as young as 7 that could potentially (not through choice) become pregnant.

All you have to do is hear the stories of when girls became women a generation or so before yours then look at your own daughters, nieces, etc. My niece is barely 9 and already in a C cup!! Although she gets that honest from her TeeTee. I've been a DDD since I was 14. She started her period last year and she's already getting a young woman's figure. She's also much more 'curious' than we were at that age. Frankly, boys were gross and had cooties when I was 9. lol

In order for the U.S. to provide the quality and quantity of food (for ourselves and others), we use chemicals, manipulate genes, and add steroids to our food sources. It's being absorbed by our bodies and effecting our children.

No. I actually have never even heard about this law. Here you have to ask for paper and some of the stores don't even have paper bags. I reuse all my plastic bags. I use them as garbage bags in my small cans. I've recently used them as packing material. I think they come in quite handy. But I do realize that many people simply throw them out rather than reuse or recycle them.

No. During a month or so in the spring we have brush pick-up. Other than that, we only have a weekly pick-up and there are certain 'rules' you have to follow. They don't have to pick up over 7 bags per home. Some of them will, depending on how nice your garbage men are, but some of them will leave anything more than 7 bags. It is at the collector's discretion (sp) whether a bag is to be considered too heavy. They will not take boxes. I'm sure there are more rules that I'm not even aware of. The only time they are made to pick up more than 7 bags is the few weeks after Christmas.

We just moved to an older neighborhood that has had many updates through the years. We have above ground utilities but I'm not sure if they've done any updating in that. Our neighborhood is full of very old, very genteel homes. Ours is circa 1900. I hate seeing that occasional new home sprinkled throughout our neighborhood streets. Or worse, that rare older, once regal home that is being allowed to fall in upon itself.

21, of course, was a biggie.
I skipped one day of class to wander around Rome by myself that day.
That may have been the only day I've ever skipped.

      30 was a landmark.
There's mental illnesses in my family.
If you make it to the age of 30 without coming down with the symptoms, you were probably good for life.

The birthday I looked forward to the most was my 16th. Mama had promised me a huge party and was allowing me to invite 100 friends. Unfortunately, I spent that birthday in the hospital, over a 100 miles away from home. The diaticians (sp) kept telling me about the cake I would be getting. Imagine my surprise to find a dry, overcooked cupcake on my tray the day I turned 16. For the longest time all of them were just another day. I've even forgotten my own birthday! Now I've begun to be thankful for each one. With my health, I never expected to see 40 so every year I am given to spend with my loved ones is one more year to be extremely grateful for.

I like making people feel special on their birthdays. On my birthday I usually buy myself something because it gets forgotten by many.

I would have to say travel, too.
Or, to be more on the realistic side, I'd love to be able to just spend a weekend meandering through flea market stalls and specialty stores spending as much time as I wanted at each display and as much money as I wanted on whatever I wanted without feeling any guilt what-so-ever.

Oh, I luuuurve Cirque du Soleil. We saw them perform over the water in a small bay while at the San Diego Zoo. I was surprised to see them at a zoo, of all places, but it was a weekday so maybe that's why. Whatever the reason, they were supurb!

I suppose we could have played in a cemeterhy but that would have taken a field trip.
The old Lexington cemetery is so beautiful that families regularly go there on Sunday mornings for picnics.
No, we played in the area in between the buildings that housed the married student and staff housing on the UK (KY) campus.
It had enough bushes, etc. to make the game fun.

My brother played chase your sister and tickle her to death, it sounds like fun but I would run and hide from that. Sometimes he would just pretend he was going to do that to get rid of me...I would run and hide and he wouldn't come look at all.

LOLOLOLOLOL!! Bell, I'm the oldest and I remember doing that to my little sisters and brothers whenever they were annoying me. I'd tell them not to come out until I found them no matter how long it took. Then I'd go read a book. :-D
