    HAPPY BIRTHDAY....OCT - DEC 2009

So this one doesn't get so long and our members birthdays don't get lost in the crowd....announce your birthday if its still coming this year.
I think a new one for either every month or every three months for next year might be easier to control :)

Wow, someone's excited. ;-) So what's to look forward to at your age? Here in the states you turn half an adult at 18 (tobacco, lotto tickets, army) and the other half at 21 (alcohol), so the kiddoes have something to look forward to. But you've already got all that, right?

At 18, you can vote, and die for your country but you can't drink alcohol.

I swear they weren't thinking too hard when they made the rules around here. My mom got to be legal for two years before they changed the age to 21. She got married at 20, though, so I doubt that year off made much of a difference.

      Cool!
      I liked 22.

Mind you, I liked every year but some were more special than others.
22 was pretty darn good except on the boyfriend end of things.
I went on plenty of dates.
Dates were really easy to get.

What was difficult was getting a date with someone you cared to have a date with.
Also, the times it was guaranteed NOT to have a date: Christmas, birthdays, and Valentine's.
      That stunk.

Haha! I know what you mean! Valentines day sucked when you were dateless. Christmas I didn't mind so much because past dates had made it hell, and I was never good with meeting family or introducing family. Fortunately that's not something that I have to endure anymore :)

      That's coming up soon!
      Sweet 16.
If you lived in the more bygone days (or the deep south and are of the right socio-economic class), you'd have a debutante ball.
Of course, if you'd lived in those days, you'd probably be expected to get married soon ... scary thought.

I'm 10 years past that and still not expected to marry soon . . . I'd be considered a spinster in those bygone days. I'm glad I'm not. ;-)

Sadly, no, not yet. In my state, we have to wait six months after we get our temps to take the test, and I got my temps kinda late. I can't take my driving test till December, which for me means feet of snow, ice, hail stones, etc...Ick. I'm scared!!!

Today is my grandson's third birthday.
He's still not talking (although he appears to be able to hear just fine).
My son says that Mr. Birthday Boy has really perked up since the therapist introduced him to sign language.
I gues we're all going to need to learn sign language until he decides to talk.
I found out that quite a few of my male cousins didn't speak until the age of 5 or 6.
    Is it an inherited trait?

Did those cousins speak in full sentences when they began talking? I think some people just don't feel the need to speak, especially if they have older siblings. Never thought about it being inherited--interesting thought.

I believe that they, and every other personal story that I'd heard on this subject, report speaking in full and complete sentences when they finally decided to speak.

If your child, or grandchild, is good at expressing their needs and wants non- verbally they won't feel the need to speak. My oldest was almost 3 when he started speaking and he caught up very quick. My uncle didn't talk till he was 4 because my father always knew what he wanted and spoke for him. My 5 year old started speaking by 11 months, didn't want to be left behind by big brother.

I've been told the same thing by other people.
I don't know what to think.
This is a new one on me.
Both of my kids started talking at around 10 months of age.
My son was clear as a bell (except for the "tr" sound).
My daughter had the baby pronounciation but she started out with a complete sentence.
It was strange with my son ...
We were having entire conversations (including a million questions) but he didn't learn how to walk until he was 18 months.

Good friends and good family make all the difference in the world.
You don't even have to do anything special as long as you get together :)
