At a recording of a "speaking" in France, he began with words to the effect of, Thank you all for ocming. I'm not going to say anything new - you've heard it all before. And to you outside, thank you even more for coming. Since it is wet and cold out there, and since I will say nothing new, you might as well go home now! ... Just one man, a simple Buddhist monk, and the same old words. Perhaps this flower in this glass is new, nothing else! ... If there is anything I say that is useful, take it: forget everything else. If it is boring or of no use, just forget it.
Such a freedom from ego, and such a sense of humour: so many heads of state could learn so much!
