I haven't read this book yet but sounds like it's right up my alley. Personally, I've thought for a long time now that we're living behind a similar iron curtain that we were told the Russian people were living behind when I was a kid in grammar school. Only it's so subtle we have no idea we are. It's much more clever.
Thanks for the tip. I'll pick this up.
The whole idea behind these two books is that the US wants its citizens to feel pride in their history, which I understand, but leaving out the negative parts and only showing the 'good' side...well, how do they expect people to learn from past mistakes?
EXACTLY. Interesting, too... I went to Catholic School for 12 years and never heard ONE WORD about a thing called "The Crusades." I'm 50 years old now. Seems that "public relations" has been the thing for quite a while now. We don't live in the America we think we live in. We have NO IDEA what kind of America we live in. But there has to be SOME reason why so much of the rest of the world either hates us or is laughing their asses off at us.
You should read 'How the Indians Lost their Land'. Great book about white settlement in America that shows both sides of the issue. You can find it on my shelfari shelf.
Awesome. Thanks. I must admit that I'm so far behind in my reading. My 88 year old mom just moved in with us in February and every night I jump into bed eagerly with a good book and fall asleep after reading about 2 pages. I DO make some head way in Dr. Office waiting rooms sometimes.
I hear you. I have a stack of books on the table that just seems to get bigger and bigger! I just wrote an ebook and it's on Amazon called 'Adeline's Wilt'. It's about a retired mother who moves in with her step-daughter. It might be right up your alley. Take care.
I'll check that out too. Thanks! You take care, too. MJ
