    What are your favorite history books about crime and punishment?

    I have in mind any book that deals with crime history and is historical in nature, so as great as Truman Capote’s "In Cold Blood" is, it really falls under the “True Crime” genre and not crime history. Please add an explanation for why each book you list is your favorite.

    I'd have to go with Healter Skelter (Charlie Manson) and "Fatal Vision" (Jeff MacDonald). These don't really fall under crime history I'm afraid but I don't think I've read any that deal with the History of crime other than the fact that these cases area part of history...
