    Happy Holidays Singapore Readers! :)

    Hello everyone,

It is good to see that in one year we have increased our membership to 43! However, it is a very inactive group, don't you think? Should we do something to make the group more active? Any ideas?

Hi, I know this discussion thread is 4 months old but I just happened to chance upon it now and become, perhaps, the latest member. While it is good to see a Singapore readers forum, it is also disheartening that there's no activity by and large. I have an extremely active life traveling around the World and avid reader of books and still looking for a book club in Singapore where one can meet people with similar interests and discuss books. Too bad, I have not found anything yet. Any ideas Rashmi?

Hi Orion_in - Its great to see that someone is finally interested in getting some sort of Book Club started in Singapore. I know that there are specialized reading groups in Singapore but nothing general like a "Singapore Book Club" or anything. I wish we could make this group active in some way - we have around 48 members and it would be great if even half of us participated actively. But unfortunately everyone seems to be happy having a virtual e-group - quite dormant and discussion free.

Hi Rashmi, I was trying to do some research on book clubs here and could not find any. In other countries, book clubs have so many discussion forums, meet the author sessions and so on. Online discussions are great in it's own way but these are not entirely interactive as you know, that's why I was kind of disappointed that I could not find anything regular. I too wish some people, even if it's a small group to begin with, can get together.

I agree with you. It would be great to have an actual reading group rather than just a virtual one.

I was looking for an online community that can be a "real life" community of book lovers. Like others, I too wanted something "ready made" rather than be the starting point. That's quite normal I guess. However, I would like to see whether it would be possible for a real community, maybe starting from a new discussion thread on this forum and possibly forming a larger "active" group. I wonder if this loud thinking will find any takers?

Based on your suggestion I have started a new discussion thread asking if anyone is interested in forming a real life discussion group. Let's see if there is any interest from our members.

Or maybe instead of meeting up, we can chat online?

Sorry all, I have been away for 3 weeks to India to tend to my sick dad. Now back in Singapore, hope we can get some discussions going. Neon, meeting up to discuss books would be a great thing actually but to start off and for those not so keen on meeting up...chat online should be fine too.

Sure Neon, we can start chatting online on this forum. Perhaps you can post a new discussion thread on a book that you might have recently read or found interesting? Orion_in, sorry to hear that your dad was not well... hope he is better now...
