Fantasy and Sci-fi Fanatics

I am personally addicted to fantasy and sci-fi and I created this group for people to discuss Fantasy and Sci-fi books that they have read.

I have found myself, more often than not, searching for a really good fantasy or sci-fi book, but to no avail. Starting a group not only enables me, and you, to find great books, but it also is a...more »

    OT: Deployed Troops

Hey everyone! So with the holidays coming up I want to send as much support to my brothers and sisters overseas who might not have family or are obviously away from thiers. I am having two large boxes of christmas cards sent one to Afghanistan and the other to Iraq, I know I appreciated those kind gestures while my unit was overseas. If anyone would like to contribute by sending over cards please just let me know and I can provide different addresses to both Iraq and Afghanistan to send some things. It doesn't have to just be cards either! Candy Canes, thoughtful momento's that go with the season... any gifts you can think of would be great! Alot of service men and women really don't have close family or firends and are forgotten on holidays, I would love to let them know there are ppl that appreciate them!

Over the last 5 years we at the Friends of the Carpinteria Library book store have sent hundreds of books over to I raq where the troops put together a library north of Bagdad. I can see if some of our customers would like to send some cards if you’d throw E me some addies. :D

Love that you send books over! we had a library when i was deployed to southern Iraq and without it i would have never have picked up Diana Gabaldon's Outlander!

Sure it was. The troops love any suspense, detective, horror, whatever. Although, not so much romance or long monologues over how some old man screwed his life up, and now that he has, what should he do about it now anyway. Same with sword and sorcery stuff. However, nearly every big selling novel from the passed 200 or so years is highly prized. The odd ones too…like: Lord of the Flies, 1984, clockwork orange, Slaughterhouse 5, Fahrenheit 451…even Artemis Fowl and the Potter books are hot with the troops.

I concur with Nee... any good book such as Dune is a welcomed item overseas!
