depends on the date, I will go.

for venue, i suggest Fun Ranch (beside Tiendesitas) since we are discussing children's books. They have many restos there. If you are interested I can also ask my friend who owns a resto there to accommodate us.

Para we can also play like kids =)

Gege, what's the name of Miren's resto? Blue Whale ba?

If the Don and his posse (as Honey said) is willing to do this is, the book reading with the ATD kids can be a pre-activity. Maybe in the morning? Or 1 p.m.
We can choose 2 books of Dr. Seuss and one or two flippers will conduct the storytelling to the kids. Our illustrators (ahem you know who you are: Blooey, Ajie and other willing talented pseudo-illustrators in FFP) can illustrate while the storyteller is talking. Even FFP kids can join!

Just tell me if you like to do this so I can arrange with ATD and Museo Pambata on logistics and date.

I'd like to read one of the books written for adults by Dr. Seuss, namely: The Seven Lady Godivas, Oh, The Places You'll Go!, or You're Only Old Once!.

Although I am not sure if they're being sold anywhere here in PH. O.o

If not, I could still settle for his good ol' children's books like Horton Hears a Who or Green Eggs and Ham. ;)

I remember posting a long reply to this, but apparently it wasn't saved.

Anyway, both Fully Booked and National have Dr. Seuss books. You can also find a lot of his books in Book Sale. However, the best place I know to get lots of his books is in the second hand bookshop at the second floor of UP Shopping Center. They have lots of his collections there. I got the last individual copy of The Lorax, though. But there are 5-in-one books.

I've asked my sister if my nephew has a Dr. Seuss book I can borrow. She said that he has one with the title "Hop on Pop". I haven't seen the book yet. She said it was more of an instructional material rather than a book with a story. So would it be okay if I use this one?

Posting some stuff discussed in the meeting:

    IN NEED OF VENUE SUGGESTIONS

Can we ask for volunteers/suggestions for this? It can be either a resto or somebody's house; i don't think it matters very much, basta central to all the members. As a last resort, we can make use of Mike's aunt's place or Honey's, but they're worried that the space might not be big enough if there will be a lot of attendees. We decided not to have a storytelling session anymore because that will take up too much time, the Dr. Seuss stories might not be appropriate/fun for the ATD kids, and we think it's best if we stayed focused on the Dr. Seuss theme. Ergo, Museo Pambata is not an option anymore because our understanding was we can only make use of the place if the Sana's ATD kids were present. We can have kids in attendance, but only our own.

We're thinking we should put a list of suggestions that people can volunteer to bring (hmm, fried chicken, spaghetti, cupcakes, hotdogs, marshmallows, sandwiches), or they can choose some other stuff, but in keeping with the theme. I guess we can include in the list paper plates, plastic utensils, plastic cups, table napkins?

From Makati: Take MRT. Get off Quezon Ave. station. Take a jeep/fx going toward Quiapo (Welcome, Taft, Buendia, Quiapo). Tell the driver you're getting off Sto. Domingo Church, around 10-15 mins. drive without traffic. Once you get to Sto. Domingo Church, take the tricycles on Sto. Domingo St. (across KFC). Take the trikes until #92. Landmark is a Mightee Mart on the right corner of Sto. Domingo and N.S. Amoranto (Retiro). Our house is two houses down from Mightee Mart. It has a sign "Camisas" in front.

If you take a cab, you can follow the same route.

If you go through Nagtahan, you can go through Espana, straight to Welcome and Quezon Ave. Once you reach Q. Ave., go down Sto. Domingo Church, cross via the footbridge, and take the trike. If you take a cab, you'll have to make a U-turn after Banawe, turn right at Banawe, make a right at the second street (M.J. Cuenco), and a left at the second street (Sto. Domingo). Then go down Sto. Domingo St. till you reach #92.

Hi, jan! If you're coming from Ortigas, just go down Ortigas extension, down past Greenhills and through New Manila till you find yourself at E. Rodriguez. Make a left at E. Rod (or the direction going towards Welcome, Rotonda or Manila).

At the intersection of E.Rodriguez and Araneta Avenue, make a right. Then, go straight down Araneta, past the intersection of Araneta and Quezon Avenue.

After you cross Quezon Avenue via Araneta, take the first left (landmark: Caltex station at the corner, beside Vibal Publishing House). Then, take the second right (that should be Sto. Domingo St. already). Go straight down Sto. Domingo till you pass Mightee Mart. Our house is the second one after Mightee Mart.

Let me know if you need more landmarks. Not used to giving directions to my house kasi.:P

    A big thank you
    To all who attended,
    Who shared their thoughts
    And listened, or pretended.:)
    To all who brought snacks
    And chocolates and sweets,
    Thank you! Thank you
    For all the good eats!

To all who joined in the game,
    The silliness and the banter,
To all of you who came
Our thanks could be no greater.

    We hope you had fun,
    And in conclusion:
Shall we expect to see all of you
    In the August discussion?:D

RECAP: (Feel free to add to/correct what I've written. I blame epidural for lousy memory.)

Ajie: read The Cat in the Hat because it's one of Dr. Seuss' books that isn't a commentary on any social or political issue.

Mike: read The Lorax BECAUSE it tackles environmental issues and consumerism. This is his first Dr. Seuss book because he was a Beatrix Potter child.

Marie: was an Adarna child and borrowed her niece's (nephew's?) copy of Hop on Pop because it's "The Simplest Seuss for Youngest Use". Oh, The Places You'll Go is now on her wish list.

Ruby: read the movie storybook of The Cat in the Hat. It's different from the original story because in this book, the kids aren't as nice--- Conrad does the exact opposite of what his mom tells him to do and Sally is a tattletale.

Adi: read The Foot Book and taught a kid to differentiate between his left foot and right foot.

Blooey: read How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Hooray for Diffendoofer Day. The latter is based on Dr. Seuss' sketches and notes and published after his death in 1991. It's written and illustrated by Jack Prelutsky and Lane Smith respectively, incorporating some lines in verbatim and some of Dr. Seuss' original drawings.

Dianne: read There's A Wocket in My Pocket, which is perfect for people with overactive imagination.

Fran: read green Eggs and Ham but didn't like it as much as The Foot Book, which she enjoyed for its rhyme and rhythm.

Czar: "I watched the Grinch; do I have to read it?":)

Ling: read The Cat in the Hat and remembers naming her younger sister Sally, after the little girl in the story.

Pocholo: read Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are. He and younger brother, Nikolai, drew on the book's pages (*gasp*).

Jan: likes Dr. Seuss' books because they're instrumental to the language development of her children. Wacky Wednesday, Green Eggs and Ham (which helped encourage her son to eat food other than just vegetables--- this is not a typo...), and There's A Wocket in My Pocket (which helped her other son overcome his fears) are among her favorites.

Peter: is usually distracted by pictures but enjoys Dr. Seuss' books, because they're good to re-read. He appreciates the language in the first reading, the images in the second, and how they're put together in the third. He read Horton Hears A Who.

Raissa: enjoys the silliness of Dr. Seuss' books, especially One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? Cute baby Chesca enjoys them as well.

Sheila: hoarded the Dr. Seuss books in a UP bookstore. She likes The Lorax and Green Eggs and Ham, which taught Paolo and Patrick to taste first before declaring their aversion to a dish.

Honey: has read almost all of Dr. Seuss' works. Among her favorites are Horton Hears A Who and Horton Hatches An Egg. She can even even quote a few stanzas from several books, despite having had her fair share of epidural.

Just realized that Green Eggs & Ham is just fitting for Miguel pala kasi he's quite picky with food. If it's new to his taste, ayaw nya. Then later on, he'll discover he likes it pala. It's actually a struggle feeding him new solid food.

I can use this book to convince him that veggies are yummy. :)

Any Avenue Q fans in the house?

I'm not too familiar with the new musicals that are coming out now (do you consider "Wicked" old or new"?). But I remember growing up listening to musicals on vinyl records. I vividly remember my aunt playing The Flower Drum Song, Fair Lady, Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific, Man of La Mancha, The King and I, Camelot and the like on Sunday mornings. If we do have a book discussion on music, I can bring these records for show-and-tell. :-)

I'm an Avenue Q fan. It's my current pick-me-up soundtrack. It's hard to keep feeling bad after listening to "It Sucks to Be Me.":)

I think Wicked's still kind of new. I remember watching the Tony Awards a few years ago when Wicked first came on.

Ooh, will geek out if we talk about musicals. My mom and lola used to have those old vinyl records din. But I don't know where they are now. Ang natira lang sa 'kin yung mga digitally remastered VHS versions of all the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, My Fair Lady, and Music Man. Yun ang bonding time namin ng lola ko noon--manood ng musicals.

Love Avenue Q too, and Im glad a friend gave me free orchestra tickets on its first run here!
I love the song Fine Fine Line.... haha, feel na feel ko sya.

The local run of Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella was magical for me too.

I also like Into the Woods but I didnt like the local prod. The actors werent enunciating enough and I couldnt hear them properly although I was in the front row!

Recently I enjoyed Spelling Bee, too.

Peter, do you have the soundtrack of Theyre Playing Our Song? Been looking for that one for ages now.
