This group is dedicated to collecting any and all English language resources about
yōkai 妖怪 and
bakemono 化け物 (that is, traditional ghosts, monsters and apparitions of Japan), and other folklore of the Sunrise Country. These creatures can also be called
obake お化け for short; hence the group's name. These books can be general folklore studies, folktale collections, or even fictional books on the subject. Anyone who is interested in this topic should feel encouraged to join!
You can even discuss and add books about monsters and folklore of other cultures; all I ask, though, is that these books be placed on the group's Reading List rather than on the Shelf. Any suggestions on how to make this group better are welcome, and don't feel shy about adding more books!
If you're looking for a good website on this subject, I can't stress enough that The Obakemono Project is most probably the Internet's best English language resource. Which brings me to one last thing: Anyone who thinks that...a certain other site (or should I say
village) is a source of information rather than a creative excercise
