Good suggestions, Stuart.
I attended a writing workshop several weeks ago, so I was going to draw from the attendees, and from some local writers that I used to schmooze with when I worked at the library.
I would actually host the meetings at the library, which means a very limited "freak filter" , unfortunately. I thought that some of the more eccentric attendees would give me fodder for character study exercises:) Of course, I realize that a pre-screened group is best, but I may have to take what I can get.
Marginally related anecdote: One of my daughter's friends moved to Alaska recently in order to meet men. Her terse assessment of the situation was, " The odds are good, but the goods are odd" I suspect the group will be in this latter category, at best:)
