Besides being avid readers, many who join this group will also be authors.

I know it's against the rules of authordom not to promote your book(s), thus I'm creating a place to do just that.

Make it easy on the readers who are looking for good books to read. Promote away in this string.

    See you in the bookstore.

I reckon I'll go first: My first novel, Caught Up, is a mainstream fiction. My second, Beauty and the Beast, is Contemporary Romance, My third, Ebony Angel, is interracial romance, and my forth Whisper Something Sweet, is an erotic romance.

Check out my website for details http://www.deewrites.com/books.html

    Peace and happy reading.

    Hello all!

I'm a lawyer and avid reader of mysteries and legal fiction. I started writing out of frustration at never seeing African-American or female lawyers depicted in legal fiction.

My legal thrillers have been described as “John Grisham meets Terry McMillan.” Here’s a description:

    IN FIRM PURSUIT
In the Essence magazine bestseller IN FIRM PURSUIT, savvy, L.A. attorney Vernetta Henderson juggles marriage, career and ambition only to become entangled in a suspicious sexual harassment case that puts everything she cherishes most at risk As both her personal and professional lives spiral dangerously out of control, Vernetta quickly discovers what really matters — and how far she’ll go to protect the people she loves.

    EVERY REASONABLE DOUBT
In EVERY REASONABLE DOUBT two top-notch attorneys must team up to defend a high-profile murder case. The only African-American attorneys at their prestigious law firm, they don’t get along and the sparks start to fly. Their client is a wealthy woman accused of murdering her womanizing husband. All she cares about is getting off. When the two attorneys come up against a hot-shot female prosecutor who’s used to crushing her opponents, their relationship changes. Forced to fight a common enemy, the women close ranks, and in the process, develop a bond that sees them through the uncertainties of trial, the pain of betrayal and pressures neither could have imagined. EVERY REASONABLE DOUBT won the Black Expressions Book Club’s annual fiction writing contest.

You can read an excerpt of both books at www.pamelasamuels-young.com.

I do loads of book club meetings. So if your group reads one of my novels, I will be more than glad to join your meetings either in person or via the wonders of speakphone.

    Thanks for your consideration!

    Hey,
This is great. Thanks for the opportunity. My second book, Only True Love Waits, is currently available wherever books are sold. I also contributed a short story, along with Kendra Norman-Bellamy, Tia McCollors, Stacy Hawkins Adams, Patricia Haley, Brittney Holmes, and numerous other authors, to The Midnight Clear: Stories of Love, Hope and Inspiration anthology.

I recently accepted a two-book deal from Urban Christian, an imprint of Kensington Books. Through them, my book, Divorcing the Devil, will be released in April 2008.

The following is a synopsis of Only True Love Waits:

Xavier Robert's life seems to be coming together. He's engaged to be married to an incredible woman, Summer Love, and he's an aspiring rapper who recently signed a record deal. When Xavier was diagnosed with testicular cancer, rather than lean on his fiancée for strength, he called off the wedding. Leaving Summer feeling alone and rejected. In an effort to move on with her life, Summer pours her energy into running her company, Spa Nevaeh. Ryan Kennedy, CEO of the record label that signed Xavier, begins to pursue Summer romantically. After learning about Ryan's troubled past, he intrigues Summer, and they begin to date. Once completing medical treatment for his condition, Xavier comes back into Summer's life. When Summer breaks up with Ryan to be with Xavier, Ryan reveals a dark side of himself, which results in deadly consequences.

My first novel is titled I'M GONNA MAKE YOU LOVE ME. It was published by Genesis press in March 2006. It won the EMMA Award from the Romance Slam Jam for book of the year, favorite hero and favorite heroine. It is the first book in my "Hip-Hop Debutantes Trilogy." This trilogy takes old romance plots and gives them a funky hip-hop remix. I'M GONNA MAKE YOU LOVE ME plays with the "arranged marriage" plot and the "rivals become lovers" plot and gives them a fresh spin. You read it and be the judge.

My second novel is titled IF ONLY YOU KNEW and it was published by Kimani Romance, Harlequin Books in July 2006. I have always been a fan of those Harlequin Presents novels with those over-the-top alpha males. These are the novels that I used to sneak from my mother's stash when I was a pre-teen. They were my first introduction to romance. I wrote IF ONLY YOU KNEW thinking I would submit it to Harlequin Presents and it would be that line's first book with black characters. Even though that didn't happen, I was happy to be the part of the launch for the new line of African American romance novels, Kimani Romance. This novel looks at the way our past, particularly the way we grew up, influences our present. And it also explores black on black prejudices across the African Diaspora. Of all my books so far, this one is my favorite.

My third published novel is titled DIVINE DESTINY. It was published in December 2006 by Parker Publishing. DIVINE DESTINY is a paranormal erotic romance set in a primitive future. Darwu the Warrior Prince has started a war against the rebel resisters to the throne. He believes that they killed his sacred mate, Kara Millan, when she was a child. After losing her parents and her entire village when she was a child, Kara Millan became a leader and freedom fighter in The Resistance. She has sworn to bring down the corrupt monarchy. When the Warrior Prince and the freedom fighter meet and find out that they are sacred mates, only divine love and a few sexually inspired lessons can bring these two sworn enemies to a true meeting of the heart, soul and mind. This one is my second favorite. But honestly, I think there may be a tie between it and IF ONLY YOU KNEW for me. :-)

My fourth novel is title SWEET SENSATION and it is the second installment in the "Hip-Hop Debutantes Trilogy." It's the story of former deejay turned record label mogul, Fredrick "Flex" Towns, and former rap artist turned spoken word artist and community college instructor, Deidre "Sweet Dee" James. This novel provides a hip-hop remix of the "secret child" plot and the "reunited lovers" plot. And of all my books it is probably the closest to my heart because it is the one book that pulls in the two popular mediums I love the most, hip-hop and romance. :-)

Finally I have a novella in the anthology, CUFFED BY CANDLELIGHT with the talented authors, Beverly Jenkins and the late Katherine D. Jones. I love all of the stories in this anthology. Here's the blurb:

What do a farmer in the past and a correction and police officer in the present have in common? A desire that won’t abide by the rules of engagement. Cuffed by Candlelight is three erotic tales of women bound to uphold the law and obey the rules. But when desire and the rules clash, love and passion ignite with some handcuffs and a little candlelight.

All three stories are HOT. My story, "Handcuffs Mean Never Having to Say You're Sorry," has some nice cuff play (wink wink). And out of all my heros, I think Lance is the steamiest so far... although Darwu from DIVINE DESTINY might give him a run for his money...

I just signed a two-book contract for a new series about for brothers, two cops and two firemen with Kimani Romance. The first novel in that series will be out in July 2008 and it is titled PROTECT AND SERVE. The second novel is scheduled for October 2008 and it is titled MAKE IT HOT. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I will be able to sell the third and fourth books in the series, UPHOLDING THE LAW and SIZZLING SEDUCTION.

If you check out one of my novels be sure to drop me a line and let me know what you think. You can also check out reviews for my novels by clicking on the icons on my profile. Or you can visit my website:

I have a youth anthology....called Speaking Me, a Youth Anthology. It contains work by 17 pre-teen and teen writers. They write of love, of pain, of the stress of teen years, and the work is amazing. The writers hail from New York City, Chicago, California, and Connecticut. One of the short stories in the collection is called "A Single Shard" which takes a look at young girls and their obsession with their bodies and 'cutting'. The collection is very mind-blowing. You can find out more about the collection by logging on to www.osbeybooksinc.com. The book is available for purchase for $8.00 on www.authorsbookshop.com/speakingme

    Hi Deatri,

Thanks for providing this opp. Here's info. on my new novel One G-String Short of Crazy.

From the author of Cruising and Crazy Love comes an I-can’t-believe-
you-really-said-that novel about hot-as-hell twin sisters who share
everything except their taste in men, and a fine-ass brother from
    Chicago.

Felicia and Aisha Goodman need separate places. Aisha can’t settle
on any one man, and night after night of loud hot sex in the room
next door is driving Felicia crazy. But neither can imagine life without
    the other.

The solution: 1920 Peachtree, owned by their good friend Tarik. The
twins can each have an apartment, yet still work together on the
accounting firm they own. But for two crazy sistahs like Felicia and
Aisha, life is never simple. Aisha’s eyeing Derrick upstairs, even after
his pregnant ex-girlfriend from Chicago turns up. Felicia is having a
secret affair that will shock even her sex-crazed sister and her life
takes even a crazier turn when she falls in love with her best friend.
And they’re both beginning to wonder if the business they started
    was the right choice.

It’s a bumpy ride, but the twins are set to prove that determined
women truly can have it all—careers, maybe marriage, and certainly
    lots of good hot sex.

  • Rhonda J

    Rhonda J

    Hi, all!

I see so many familiar faces here. I've been saying I would join a book club (or five) forever, because I am always reading anyway. Also, I just love to discuss books I've read and loved with other readers. However, I've just gotten with the program and started joining up. I just found y'all, so, hello!

For those of you who don't already know me, my name is Rhonda Jackson Joseph, and I am a writer. I've been focusing on romance lately, with my first contemporary romance novel Call It What You Want having debuted in March this year. I also have a romance short story, "The Act" available through AmazonShorts.

    Blurbs for both follow:

Call It What You Want: Cishawn Simpson wants to be an independent woman, free from social labels and expectations. She doesn't want to need a man; however, she does want one around who will simply allow her to do as she
pleases. She is driven by the witnessing of her deceased mother's
need for a life separate from her family. Cishawn feels that her
mother was restrained by the labels of mother and wife, and as a
result, ran headlong back into the career which caused her death.

Tonzell Jones wants to be financially stable before starting a
committed relationship. When he finally reaches the top, he wants a
nice, amiable partner whom he can take care of. Raised by his
grandparents after his heartbroken father could no longer take care
of him, Tonzell often thinks about his drug addicted mother who
abandoned her family. He now feels the need to take care of every
stray he encounters, the way his father was unable to take care of
his mother. The way he was unable to take care of them both.

Cishawn and Tonzell first meet during a blind date in college,
arranged by a mutual friend. Things are hot, hot, hot between them,
but the date is a disaster. Several years later, they are reunited
at a wedding. When a case of the chicken pox quarrantines them,
each must face the realization that the purely sexual relationship
they have proposed may spiral out of their control and evolve into
    much more.

The Act: “The Act” is a short story which tells the story of Melanie Durst, the widowed mother of three grown up daughters. When the last to leave the nest plans to marry and leave mother home alone, Melanie finds herself the object of the girls' matchmaking schemes. In an effort to waylay these actions, Melanie joins forces with a handsome regular customer in her store, Tyson Brown. What begins as a farce to get her daughters off her back ends up being the beginning of a beautiful relationship for Melanie.

    Shelia G

    Hi,
    My name is Shelia Goss.
I would like to introduce my upcoming book - Double Platinum:

To the world, R&B mega star Parris Mitchell has it all: fame, money, jewelry and several gold and platinum records to go along with it. But now, with her singing career declining, she struggles with depression. Her last few albums were disappointments not only to her record label because of low sales, but to her devoted fans.

Casper Johnson is one of the hottest and most sought after producers in the music industry. All of the media attention has garnered “The Hit Maker” a playboy image. He’s getting tired of the same old sound and he’s looking for the right voice to help take his career to the next level. Parris agrees to give Casper a chance to revive her career.

When they get together, their working relationship quickly crosses the line and their drama from groupies and people from their past becomes the source of plenty of print for the paparazzi.

“Nick pushed himself up slightly enough to stare down into her face. Her expression revealed she wanted him. A mischievous smirk played at his lips. ‘You do want me to take this off, don’t you?’”
-- Victoria Wells, author of A Special Summer

Human connection is at the heart and soul of seductive new romance novel by local author, Victoria Wells

Victoria Wells’ inaugural novel, A Special Summer, explores the universal themes and compelling experiences of family, motherhood and romance, which transcend race and gender. Her timeless account of the human condition is relevant and provides a real connection through the perspective of a cast of sensitive, strong, smart, self-sufficient contemporary African-American characters.

At the soul of this steamy, sultry tale of seduction is a shocking secret that threatens to be the kiss of death for an once-in-a-lifetime romance between siren Summer Jackson and her luscious love interest, Nick Stiles. Through the prism of the couple’s painstaking web of love, lust, loss and longing, we find out just how razor-thin the double-edged line between romance and rage can be. But the beauty of this story is that it delves not only into the precarious intimacy of a romantic couple, but into the dynamics of an entire community. The parent-child, father-son, girlfriend-sister and male-bonding relationships are at the forefront of this “explorationship.” These human interactions are inextricably intertwined to tell a titillating story of heartache and passion.

“A Special Summer is a book for all seasons,” says Victoria Wells. “It is a classic romance novel of pure escapism, but it also has a universal scope. The story has a redemptive quality and sprit when two wounded souls are healed through forgiveness. Whether you are a single mom, a married couple, sister or brother, I think you will identify, in some capacity, with the main characters choices, circumstances and challenges to work through their relationship issues.”

Victoria Wells has been a lover of modern romance since reading her first novel at age 15. Victoria, 40, is a nurse practitioner, wife and the proud mother of three beautiful children: Martia, Leroy, and Melanie. Victoria grew up in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and currently lives in East Oak Lane.

She has taken the sensitivity of her training as a medical professional and applied it to the pages of her new novel. As a nurse in the Greater Philadelphia area over the last 17 years, she has written and lectured extensively on health, particularly the cause of sickle cell disease. Her dedication as an advocate for patients has earned her the Regional and National 2005 Nursing Spectrum’s Nurse of the Year Nursing Excellence Award in clinical care.

In 2006, Wells was awarded the Movers and Shakers Award by various organizations -- the American Women Heritage Society, National Association of University Women, National Association of Phi Delta Kappa, Top Ladies Distinction and Two Thousand African American Women. Wells has been recognized by Philadelphia City Council for her nursing achievements and community involvement.

    WHITMORE A (edited)

Hello, I'm LaTanya Whitmore, author of Love and Consequences, a novel. It debut in 2005 and was listed as a best selling fiction paperback novel in Dallas, Tx. My novel is available on www.amazon.com. See below.

    Back Cover:
Anthony Marcus---At sixteen, love was the last thing on my mind. But all that changed the moment I saw her. She rendered me speechless. But she was more than the beauty of her coca brown skin. She challenged me. Shared her secrets, showed me her soul and in the process my own heart was unveiled. She taught me how to be a friend. Then friendship became compassion and then compassion became the indescribable. We became us. Inseparable. Unshakeable. Solid. At sixteen I bought the ring. He did the unthinkable. Beat her, bruised her, raped her and tore my soul inside out. My heart broke, bled on the inside, and filled with undeniable pain. He changed me. I became the exact opposite of what I once was.

    The Present….

Nicole----We left in the middle of the night. I thought I could escape. But I couldn’t. I was shaken. He was rocked. I was broken and he was destroyed. I wanted him to love me, but I didn’t feel loveable. I wanted him to touch me but I knew I was untouchable. I reached out to someone else, found a substitute love. For years I lived in a fairytale with my make believe prince. But I was betrayed, set up and facing a sentence for a crime I didn’t commit.

What lies ahead… Only time can tell for both have pushed their once passionate love aside while they each struggle to deal with the pains of their past. But after one night of passion, Anthony is face to face with the love he once had for Nicole. But will she return his love? And is he willing to do whatever it takes to own her heart?

Would love to hear from you!

    GwynethBolton

My latest release, PROTECT AND SERVE, is in stores now. It is already getting outstanding reviews. It is the first book in the Hightower Honors Series and it starts this steamy series off with a bang.

    Here’s the blurb:

Police detective Jason Hightower is flooded with memories when Penny Keys comes home to New Jersey. After fifteen years, he still wants to understand why she loved, lied to and left him. And he needs to know before she disappears from his life again....

Penny came home for family reasons, not to face her difficult past... or the man she still loves. But Jason is determined to have answers, answers that it breaks her heart to give. And it seems that nothing will keep Jason from the truth this time. Or, hold him back from what he wants to protect and serve the most... their chance for a future together.

And here’s what some of the critics are saying:

PROTECT AND SERVE is the first book in Gwyneth Bolton’s HIGHTOWER HONORS series. There’s no way you can resist falling for any of the Hightower family - with the exception of the uppity aunt. They’re a close-knit group with a lot of appeal. It’s so easy to relate to Penny. She’s made mistakes, which she’s fully aware of and would rather do anything than admit to the error of her ways. There’s no shortage of interesting characters to keep readers engrossed in this story and I’m hoping will see more of Terrill and Penny’s business partner Maritza in one of the other books in this series. Their ongoing verbal battles are just too funny. Joel, Patrick, and Lawrence Hightower are all extremely different and honorable so I’m really looking forward to each of the other brothers’ stories. Gwyneth Bolton definitely knows how to make an impact with her strong storylines and loveable characters. ~ Christine Dionne, Romance Junkies, 5 Blue Ribbons

Bolton proves why she is an award-winning author in this captivating story. She stirs in dangers of the hood, mixes in a little dysfunctional family spice, and peppers the story with the breakdown of friendships, which cooks up a sensual love story. The characters add to the recipe by using strong emotions that will unveil family secrets that will either tear them apart or bring them together. As in most African American families, Big Mama's spirit helps them - to forgive each other, overcome prideful spirits and love as families should. PROTECT AND SERVE is the first part in the Hightower Honors series and if this is any indication of future installments…they are must haves for any romance lover. ~ Deltareviewer, The Real Page Turners Reviewers, 5 Stars

PROTECT AND SERVE is a powerful story about truth and drama in the ‘hood.' Ms. Bolton captures the primal essence of the hopelessness prevailing in the inner city while showing the strengths of family, spirituality and love that is essential in overcoming that hopelessness. A truly beautiful love story that will keep you captivated until the end. ~ Lani Roberts, Affaire de Coeur Magazine. 5 Stars

A well written book with thwarted love and a little mystery thrown into the mix, PROTECT AND SERVE is a sensual romance with which to while away a pleasant afternoon. The romantic tension and sizzle when Penny and Jason are in the same room make this a book a romance that readers won’t want to miss. ~ Marilyn Heyman, Romance Reviews Today

PROTECT AND SERVE was a real life story that answered the question of whether home is really where the heart is. Bolton addressed many issues that suddenly pop up while preparing for a funeral and some issues that families simply try to hide and not discuss. The story was funny, a bit of a mystery and romantic. Once you meet the Hightower family, I am sure you will look forward to reading the other books in the series. ~ Priscilla C. Johnson, APOOO Book Club 4 Stars

Nobody does enduring romance better than Gwyneth Bolton…You'll never have to skip a love scene in PROTECT AND SERVE, providing the Sensual Heat Level is in your comfort zone as a romance reader. And maybe even if it isn't… No author writes a better sensual love scene than Gwyneth Bolton, in my opinion… If you asked me last week which one was my favorite, I would have said SWEET SENSATION. Today, I just don't know. PROTECT AND SERVE is right up there with it. ~ Kimber An, Enduring Romance

Gwyneth Bolton masterfully handles some serious social issues in PROTECT AND SERVE without allowing them to overpower the romance. ~ Debbie R. Sims, Romantic Times Book Review

Hi my name is Rachel Berry and I'm thankful for this area to ask you and the other readers an importnat question:

    Do You Have A Secret?

Well, the characters in my newly released novel "Family Pictures" have many. Come check out the crazy ride between Regal Sommers, her aunt Emma Jean, and those people they call family. It's all about the STUFF we all have in our family; lies, secrets, competition, tears, love and laughter. See how the decisions others make not only affect them but those in their family as well. Family Pictures...we all have them. But what's really the story behind all those smiles?

Pick up a copy and buy one for a relative. You won't be disappointed. And if you like, maybe you can share with us some of those bones waiting to fall out of your closet.

See a preview of the first 20 pages of Family Pictures at:
    http://www.Lulu.com/RachelBerry

And by the way I have a secret...

I've always had this fantasy about being a a highly paid hit woman. Still do, but since I like the freedom of life on the outside I just created a character called Vanilla Black- she's a hit woman that appears in all my stories and I live through her escapades.

Okay my secrets out...What's yours? y

I'm so glad I found this site! It has been my life long dream to publish my erotic short stories. I finally decided that today is SOMEDAY! My first e-book is entitled 'Collage of Exstacy Volume 1' Volume 2 will be added in December.
My website is www.m-jeannine.com Every Wednesday I update the Quickie page, which is in a blog format. I have been asked a thousand times why write about sex. To be honest - I wasn't getting any... well at least it wasn't good so I started to fantasize. From there I began to write. Then I started to look around me and everything seemed to be geared towards non-african americans in romance novels.
I would not picture myself with 'flowing red locks and emerald green eyes lying naked in a field of tulips' for 1) that would be a scary site! 2) well... point number 1 hits it on the head! I have known of nothing more beautiful than the african american/ negro/ black naked landscape, if you will. Our bodies maybe toned or terribly out of shape; however, it is still sexy and sensual! I wanted to write short stories that we can relate to. I needed to allow my point of view to be heard and shared. Thank you, M. Jeannine

    From Ella:

Somebody's Sinning in My Bed by Pat G'Orge-Walker
Somebody's Sinning in My Bed by Pat G'Orge-Walker

“It is my intent to draw attention to God’s message of love through humor. If we can love God whom we have never seen, yet cannot love the ones we can see, then we have missed God’s entire message.” -- Pat G’Orge-Walker

Chyna and her sister Janelle are always moments away from a catfight. They love each other, but Janelle has never forgiven her sister for swiping her first love, Cordell. That was ages ago, and now Chyna is showing off as the First Lady of New Hope Assembly, a church that’s caught between the old ways of Holiness and new ways of serving its community. New Hope’s leader, Reverend Grayson Young, is also caught…in the infamous Sweet Bush lounge, an establishment well-known for adult pleasures.

With the church congregation running wild in the aftermath of her husband’s scandalous behavior, Chyna turns to her sister Janelle for guidance. But if Chyna thinks she’s getting sympathy from Janelle, she’d better think again, because Janelle’s got her own crisis. And when Cordell suddenly comes back into the sisters’ lives, what follows are squabbling, chaos, and surprises that show just how hard the road to salvation really is…

Excerpt from Somebody's Sinning in My Bed by Pat G'Orge-Walker

"Cordell DeWitt was not only Chyna's ex-husband but also had been Janelle's first and only true love. Her soul mate, she'd thought at the time. Actually, she hadn't changed her mind about that. He was still that. She'd chased her lost love for him from bed to bed since he'd left her for Chyna.

Never finding what she'd had with Cordell made Janelle wild. She wore infidelity almost like a badge of honor every time she'd committed adultery with someone's husband or stole a man. She was doing to other women what she'd felt her sister had done to her. She'd kept up her reckless behavior even after months of pleading for forgiveness from Chyna. Eventually she'd finally forgiven Chyna for marrying Cordell, her Cordell. Or perhaps she hadn't."

Ella: Tell us about your passion for writing. Why do you write? What drives you?
I believe my love for words play an integral part in my passion for writing. I need to write as much as I need air to breathe. It is like being constantly pregnant and needing to deliver.

Ella: Finish this sentence- My writing offers the following legacy to future readers...
...permission to be different in the face of naysayers. There were times when I was faced with the challenge of delivering God's message through humor. Of course, laughter, although permitted through scripture, didn't seem to connect with those staunch Saintly folks. Never let anyone step on your creativity when your creativity is to enlighten and provide entertainment.

Ella: Where are you from? How did you start your writing journey?
I am from Mount Vernon, New York. My writing journey began in elementary school and was mentored by my third grade teacher, Ms. Bobbie Madison.
Ella: Give us the synopsis of the book being discussed, Somebody's Sinning In My Bed.
Pat G’Orge-Walker delivers a wickedly funny, uplifting novel of love and betrayal…good karma and bad karma…sin and redemption

Ella: Who are your two main characters and what do you like most about them?
The main characters in my book are two sisters; Chyna and Janelle. What I like about Chyna is that she finally resolves to not think less of herself than God does. What I like about Janelle is her fire. Janelle's a person who loves deeply and that makes her dangerous on several levels. However, Janelle is also able to suck on a pigfoot while drinking Cristol and make it look classy.

Ella: What makes your book stand out and would entice a reader pick it up?
My books are pretty much known for their covers. The fire red cover, shy-yet flirty female and the church steeple are strong images. I also think the title is provocative; Somebody's Sinning in My Bed.

Ella: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your book?
I want the reader to remember that we're birthed in complexities and need. Life is a journey that will make you or break you. If the reader can remember that God is always in control and whatever you go through...God's got the end already tied up and gift-wrapped for you if you walk in faith. However, one should never play with God; a reprobated mind is a terrible thing to have. And finally, one should never think less of themselves than God does.

Ella: What is the most surprising thing you have learned in creating books?
The most surprising thing I've learned to date is that readers come in all shapes, colors, sizes and persuasions. You cannot please them all and that can be quite sobering if you rely solely on the reader for inspiration. So you must write for you and remain honest in what you write.

Ella: What would you say has been your most significant achievement as a writer?
I believe my most significant achievement as a writer would have to be the across the board, in terms of gender, race, secular and Christian acceptance of my work. It's a great reward in and of itself.

Ella: What advice would you give a new writer?
I would advise a new writer to study their craft, pray often and surround yourself with like-minded people. Also in getting representation make sure they are reputable and don't jump at the first person/agency to say they can make you a star or get your books published.

Ella: Name 3 things that it takes to make a successful author, in your opinion?
Three things that make a successful author in my opinion are: (1) the ability to craft a good story that the reader won't have to read two-three times to get its meaning. (2) Have a marketing plan that is doable and then do it along with prayer. (3) An honest relationship with your editor is key.

Ella: What can we expect from you in the future?
I will have one more book coming out in 2010. It is tentatively titled, "Jessie's Jewels." After that there will be more stories involving Sister Betty and her zany cohorts.

Ella: Share with us your latest news, awards or upcoming book releases.
I'm currently working on my next novel and eagerly awaiting the BEA where Somebody's Sinning in my Bed will debut before it's August 2009 release. Of course, I'm still out and about performing and traveling with my Somewhat Saved Comedy Show.

Diary of A Stalker by Electa Rome Parks
Diary of A Stalker by Electa Rome Parks
    ISBN 10: 160162199x
Never judge a book by its cover. . .
Xavier Preston is tall, dark, and handsome, and the problem is that he knows it. He's a bestselling author who is accustomed to adoring female fans, both young and old, flirting with him, throwing themselves shamelessly at him, and trying to get between more than the covers of his novels. He has always been more than willing to accommodate their needs and desires; however, his womanizing days have finally ended. He's engaged to a beautiful woman, Kendall, and he's decided to walk the straight and narrow. Or has he?

From outside appearances, the very stunning Pilar has it all: a great career, a beautiful home, and a trust fund that keeps her financially secure; however, looks can be deceiving. All that glitters isn't necessarily gold. Pilar is searching for her perfect soulmate, and she thinks she has found him in Xavier. She believes in going after what she wants with a vengeance . . . and she wants Xavier. That is not negotiable. She will have him, even if it kills him.

When Xavier meets his fanatical fan, Pilar, he gets much more than he bargained for. What starts out as an erotic one-night stand quickly spirals out of control into a dangerous game of obsession and pain with both parties playing to win.

Think you know what goes on behind the literary scene? Think again

    Excerpt
    Meet PILAR
    I'm your #1 fan.

It's funny how one's life can forever be changed with the utterance of four simple words: I'm your #1 fan. Well, actually, they weren't spoken, but sent to my favorite male author, Xavier Preston, by way of e-mail. Man, I love the World Wide Web.

I couldn't believe it; I had recently finished reading his latest national bestseller, Secret Desires, and to put it mildly, I was simply blown away. I felt like the main character was speaking directly to me, like she was inside my brain, picking it apart, piece-by-piece. I could relate to the storyline . . . totally . . . and the ending was spectacular, took my breath away. Secret Desires stayed with me, languishing inside my soul, like a sweet kiss that lingers into the early morning hours as dawn approaches.

Even though I am an avid reader, I should be since I'm a freelance writer; I typically do not contact authors about their books. I don't get caught up in the entire groupie side of the literary industry. Yes, it exists! Surprise, surprise! There is an entire circle of women all across the country, sometimes entire book clubs, who follow the lives and movement of African-American male writers the same way groupies chase after rappers, rock stars, athletes and actors.

In the book industry, it is just a bit more subtle. For example, the book club president might fly the handsome, fine, articulate male author into her city for the weekend, to discuss his most recent hot release at the monthly book club meeting and to perhaps get the added bonus of getting up close and personal between the sheets. It happens.

For me, however, this was different; Xavier Preston made a lasting impression. And generally it took a lot to impress me because I wasn't into the ordinary and I was determined to tell him, how impressed I was. That is, after I went out and purchased all his previous novels. I had a bit of catching up to do.

A week later, after devouring his other six novels from cover to cover like a delicious gourmet meal, savoring every word, I knew I had to make contact. I simply had an unrelenting urge to speak with him. I couldn't get his lyrical, rhythmic, flowing words out of my head. This man moved me. Moved me like I had never been moved before. I felt a connection. A deep connection.

Early one morning, before I began writing an article for one of the local magazines I frequently wrote for, I sent Xavier Preston my sincere, honest thoughts.

“Mr. Preston, I'm your #1 fan. I know you hear that all the time from readers, but I really, truly am. Your characters stay with me long after I've consumed the last page of your books. I never want your stories to end; they move me. You are super-talented, put these other authors to shame, and I'd love for you to autograph my books. By the way, I have all your novels. When will you be in Atlanta? A true, die-heart fan, Pilar.”

Much to my surprise and pleasure, a couple of days later, I received a simple response.

“Pilar, what a lovely name. Thank you, for the sweet e-mail. I'm so pleased you've enjoyed my books over the years. I'd love to meet you as well. I enjoy meeting and greeting my readers. I will be signing at Medu Bookstore, at 5:00 PM next Saturday at Greenbriar Mall. Please, stop by if you get the opportunity. I would love to see you there. Xavier.”

With a pounding heartbeat, I couldn't believe what I was reading and I re-read it a few more times for clarity. Wanted to make sure I was reading correctly that Xavier Preston asked to meet me. Me. Next weekend couldn't arrive soon enough

    Hello everyone!

I'm excited to share with Black Romance my first debut release, The Enchanted Flute with Noble Romance Publishing! I hope you'll take a moment to read the blurb and excerpt below!

    Blurb:
When a beautiful enchantress awakens from her slumber to soul-stirring music, she reveals herself to the gifted, gorgeous flutist playing nearby. Lanai is at once attracted to Arye and moved by his melodies. After a sizzling night of sex, the enchantress realizes she’s fallen in love for the first time.

Lanai offers her love to the Arye, a man that has never loved anything more than his flute. Although, the enchantress could use magic to win his heart, she wants him to love her on his own. Heartbroken and bitter, she casts a powerful spell over the flutist instrument that causes listeners to act out whatever emotion Ayre is feeling at the moment and disappears.

Unable to control his thoughts and fearful of harming his adoring audience, Ayre now only plays his enchanted flute when he is alone. Angry and determined, he spends his time searching for Lanai. Years go by and Ayre begins to give up hope that he will ever find the woman that consumes his thoughts and fuels his lustful desires. When he finally stumbles across the enchantress, Ayre is torn between fury and desire…or is it love?

    PG-13 Excerpt:
The enchantress wanted the musician’s hands on her body. She wanted to feel those calloused fingers all over her skin. The desire that arose within her eclipsed anything she had ever experienced. No man had ever been able to resist her when she chose to show herself, especially not when she pulled out all the stops, like now. Why, then, hadn’t he put his instrument down to touch her? How could he possibly resist her charms?

She slowly raised her arms, pulling the tie holding her emerald green halter top in place. Bare from the waist up, she enjoyed the heat and desire she could see in his eyes as she stopped dancing to stand motionless before him. With another quick tug, her skirt fell in a pool of silk to her feet and she stood completely naked.
