Books with no love scenes...
Started by chicagoauthor, Monday, January 28 2008. Last post Saturday, February 2 2008.

I have been approached by Christian Publishers and others who say they like my books minus the sex. I hear more and more of that and I realize that means I could have more depth to the story BUT how do you write a story, there is romantic interest and physical chemistry between the characters and no sex? Seriously I am trying to broaden my horizons and fan base. I am open to suggestions. People have asked me to write Christian Lit but I am not there (from a spiritual standpoint) and I think it would be hypocritical. Suggestions?

I think as long as you keep writing from your comfort level you will get the results you are looking for! There is nothing wrong with suggestions and adapting to a variety of story lines, but I say, "Do what makes you comfortable". If that means you writing a spiritual novel and you are feelin it (w/o feeling hypocritical), then go with that feeling, as long as you stay true to self you will accomplish your goal while expanding your fanbase. Good luck with all your future endeavors.

I agree with Cottoncandie. You must stay true to yourself and write what you feel. However, if writing Christian Lit is a way to broaden your fan base then go for it. I've read a couple of romance novels that were christian based. Jacqueline Thomas writes christian romance and the sexual tension is happening! If she can do it, so can you. Obviously, you must be a very talented author having been approached by Christian Publishers! Step out on faith...and go for it!

I agree with Cottoncandie and vickiwe...you must stay true to self when writing your novels, but I don't think you should limit yourself to one style of writing...why not read a few sweet or christian romances and see if it's something you might be able to achieve and broaden your fan base. Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do!

Sweet romance does not have sex scenes in it. You may wish to read some to get an idea of how others pull it off. I used to read quite a bit of sweet romance, but can't think of the authors now. Sheeesh.

But in the end, Tonnoncandie and vickiwe are correct, you have to write in your comfort zone.

Peace
