Hi I'm Jewel Amethyst author of "A Marriage of Convenience". I'm just popping in to say hi and I will be checking back later in the day as the discussion gets on the way.

    A little about myself:

I'm from the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, though I have been residing in the US for some time. I'm the mother of three and I love writing. I have been writing poems and short stories since I was seven. "A Marriage of Convenience" is my first full length novel published, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I've also published a novella "From SKB with Love" in the "Holiday Brides" romance anthology. That story is set in St. Kitts and reflects a culture that's near to my heart. I love romance with a mulitcultural flair.

If anyone needs to contact me, just send an email to jeweld8@gmail.com. I'm also on facebook and I blog twice a month on Novelspaces, a blogspot I share with 11 other very interesting authors.

I look forward to hearing your impressions of "A Marriage of Convenience" and its impact on you as a reader.

    Hi Jewel,

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed A Marriage of Convenience. I loved that you took one of those tried and true romance plots and gave it such an up-to-date and relevant remix! I loved that you showed us a plus-sized heroine. I love the way you showcased the African Diaspora and how African American interact with our brothers and sister from the Continent. I really just enjoyed the book. I have a copy of Holiday Brides that I haven't been able to dive into yet because of deadlines. But, I'm looking forward to your story in there as well. Best of luck with your career. After reading A Marriage of Convenience, I'd say you're off to a great start!

What was your inspiration for writing A Marriage of Convenience? Is this one of your favorite romance plots? I know for me, my all time favorite romance plot-line is the "secret baby/secret child." I love to read them. If I pick up a book and there's a secret child, I'm buying it. The marriage of convenience plot-line is a hard one to pull off in a contemporary novel, so I commend you for finding realistic reasons for why these two characters would make this kind of arrangement. Was that hard to do?

My inspiration? Well I love to see people come back from very trying circumstances to find their "happily ever after". As an immigrant, I also hear a lot of people who marry strictly for green card. Quite a few years back an acquaintance did so and is still married today. They found love in a marriage of convenience and I thought that would make a great romantic story.

Marriages of convenience is not necessarily a favorite plot, but I do like atypical heroes and heroines. I like people with real world issues who go through personal difficulty before finding their true love.

I too have had too many meeting today so have been late in posting a comment.

I enjoyed the storyline and you really addresses a lot of issues:
    - self-esteem
    - diverse cultures
    - diverse classes

I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the African culture -

and of course I enjoyed the scenes taking place in St. Lucia - which I will be visiting in a couple of weeks

I too enjoyed A Marriage of Convenience and like the others have said the fact that she was plus sized and he never let that bother him. When she got mad at him for having someone in her basement when she wouldn't give him anytime, I had to talk to her myself.

Holiday Brides is in my TBR pile; will be getting to it over the holiday. Whta's next from your writing pen?

I'm with everyone else, great book. All the elements you wove into the story made it so rich. Thank you for that.

You know, folks, I find that in my reading, I really do enjoy novels where the characters look like your average every day person. I mean we aren't all tall, bony, model types and every day people are beautiful too.

    I'm just saying (SMILE).

And Gwen, I'm planning on writing a hero of a romance that is like five-nine instead of the usual six plus feet that you will DIE for. LOL.

    Peace
    Dee

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the book. I hope that I can bring that kind of joy to readers in future books. One question I would like to pose: Considering that the average American is larger than a size 10, do you think there should be more plus size heroines (and heroes) in romance novels? In other words, should heroes and heroines reflect reality (what is) or should they reflect what we would like to be?

Okay...I just want to thank Gwyneth for suggesting this book (if she hadn't mentioned it I would have surely missed this one)...I think I just got my READING GROOVE back with this CAPTIVATING romantic treat...I started this book this morning and haven't been able to put it down...I was in the middle of reading another story...and just decided to read the first few pages to see if I could get into the story...and from that point on I was HOOKED...I couldn't put it down...I'll go back to the other story later...I still haven't finished this book, yet...but I'm so feeling this story...I LOVE Ben and the way he makes Tammy feel...the way he makes her want to be the "REAL" her...the way he makes her feel beautiful and comfortable in her skin...it's SIMPLY beautiful...I'm on page 187...and I'm starting to sense some impending doom...I'm so happy they've moved past the business deal and found true love...can't wait to read on to see if they discover a HEA...I've avoided reading the posts just yet because I didn't want to know the outcome...but I'm hoping for good things...and just want to tell Jewel...if she's still reading the posts that even though I'm only have way through IMHO...she DEFINITELY has a hit on her hands...and I look forward to reading more from her in the future...as always Happy Reading, Ladies :-)
