Hello to all the lovely ladies (and handsome gents if you're out there) who've taken a moment to drop in on this discussion. Much love to Deatri and the club for choosing my book, mon. That's ai'rey for true!
So Deatri asked me to say a little about myself. That is an interesting question for several reasons. The primary one being that I am a persona created in the mind of a writer with much going on in her head. I hail from de' islands. When someone asks which one I say all of dem, mon. I believe that we are all one, no? And I believe that for all of us, love is the most important thing. Which is why I absolutely love writing romance novels! I fall in love with each leading man (and am trying to find him in real life, mon! ::wink::). I try to write characters that strike a balance between real life and fantasy, characters that people can relate to and at the same time that will take the reader on a wonderful journey. I very much enjoyed my journey that brings you "Body By Night".
Body By Night was inspired by my time at the gym. Starting in about 2005-6, I joined Bally's gym and became a step-aholic! You know, the people behind the glass at the back of the gym doing intricate dance steps on a little board that's about three feet long and 4-8 inches, or more, off the ground, depending on the stepper and how many blocks he/she has under the step. I love step because while it gives you a great workout, it really feels like you're just dancing and having a good time. It's great cardio, but also works those leg muscles. But don't forget the crunches to strenghthen that core!
The hero of Body, JaJuan "Night" Simmons, came from my imagination, not the gym floor. Haven't seen anybody like him walking around and helping the ladies...trust! But I'm looking! D'Andra represents the many beautiful thick ladies I know, friends and family, some who are healthy and some who could join D'Andra in her new regimen!
As this storyline unfolded in my head, I was acutely aware of the importance of being in good shape. I felt so much better when I lost a few pounds (15) and got in shape. Exercise is good for the soul! And eating right not only makes you look better, it makes you FEEL better! That's why it was important that D'Andra be focused on feeling good, being healthy, and not just losing weight. That is why I'm glad that instead of going on a diet, she changed her lifestyle!
Well, that's a little bit about me and how this book came about. I look forward to hanging out with all of you tomorrow, answering your questions, discussing the book, the art of writing, lifestyle changing, fine Black men, sexy thick sistahs, or anything else you want to talk about!
