April 2009--what is in your TBR pile to be read this month?

My TBR pile tipped over, and my hubby shelved all the books. LOL! Actually, it makes reading more fun, as I find all sorts of stuff that I haven't read in years, and of course I also come across some of the new things I've acquired. I've got some things that I haven't finished this past month which I hope to get done, too. (See my shelf of books that I am currently reading...) However, I am feeling the urge to go book shopping in the near future, or at least order a few online or something... So, that said, I need some ideas! What are you reading for April?

Haha. I'm hoping I can keep myself out of the bookstores for a few weeks considering how many I've purchased lately!

This week I've got the following in my TBR pile:

Darling Jim by Christain Moerk (reading now)
Keeper if Light and Dust by Natasha Mostert
    The Stranger by Max Frei
Thanks for the Memories by Cecelia Ahern
In the Courts of the Sun by Brian D'Amato

And I can't wait for Skin by Mo Hayder to arrive! Everything will be put on hold when that one comes in.

I went online yesterday and bought a couple books. One of them is a Greg Isles book. I forget the title , but I've never read anything by him, so this should be interesting.

The other day my hubby was talking with our banker (due to someone stealing our card number and using it in Hong Kong and Australia over the weekend). Our banker was going over all the charges and he said that my husband needs to take a look at a bunch of charges to a specific online book store, as it seemed like there was a lot of action lately. My dear husband just laughed and told him not to worry about those transactions, as "my wife is a bookaholic." LOL

Just finished Sunday at Tiffany's by James Patterson. This is not a thriller, but it's a cute book for a quick, light read. Just started Scarpetta by Patricia Cornwell - not far enough in to make any comments yet. Next up is Velocity by Dean Koontz. I also want to fit in Bloody Memory by Greg Iles some time this month.

You can go to my "Reading" shelf and get most of the books on my immediate tbr (as opposed to my "I plan to read, which has hundreds). I always have multiple books going, especially the poetry and the essays/non-fiction which I read in spurts. But for the mystery/suspense, what I am reading or am lining up are:

-Julia Spencer-Fleming: All Mortal Flesh, 5th in the series, female Anglican priest and police chief investigating, excellent
-Stuart Woods: Choke, stand alone, all of his series are good, read them in order, listening to this
-Lyndon Stacey: Outside Chance, horse racing in Britain, somewhat like Dick Francis
-Charles Finch: A Beautiful Blue Death, received excellent reviews and won awards, now in pb
-Ariana Franklin: Mistress of the Art of Death, 1st of series, 12th c, female pathologist, recommended by another Shelfari member

If you have not read Steig Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it is one of the best mysteries and books I have read. Complex, fascinating, superb characters, well-written. A "caveat", it is very!!! strong material, brutal violence, so if that is not your cup-of-tea you may want to avoid. He wrote all of the trilogy prior to his death, the second being available in U.S. in July.

Another mystery series, that is my favorite, is that by William Kent Krueger. These stories are complex and provocative with relevant issues (one recurring is racial, a second disturbing issue was the ethics/legality of the planned killing another, even if a criminal) that are to be considered long after you have finished the book. If you want hilarious, often slap-stick type, action as well as a terrific romance element, Evanovich's Stephanie Plum cannot be topped. These are light, fast reading. The audio versions, read by a perfect reader, are the best. I just finished one of the well-regarded series by Jan Burke with Irene Kelly as an investigative journalist, Bones. I highly recommend her books.

Thank God I do not have anyone in my life who would dare to mess with my books/piles, upright or not. Although I have well organized Shelfari shelves to which I could refer, it would a bloody pain to find them among my thousands.

I'm on a Dean Koontz kick this month. I've read The Husband, The Eyes of Darkness and From the Corner of His Eye. From the Corner of His Eye was one of the strangest books I've ever read - has anyone else read it?
    On my TBR Pile:

    The Taking by Dean Koontz
The Ice House by Minette Walters
Interred with Their Bones by Jennifer Lee Carrell
    Cold Paradise by Stuart Woods
And guess I'll have to add The Mermaid's Singing for May.

The Taking was one of my favorite books by Dean Koontz. The ending is sort of a "shocker". Really good book!

I'm now reading The Stone Cutter by Camilla Läckberg and next up is Stieg Larssons The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I haven't read any books by Larsson yet, so I am very curious. After that there are a few German books to read (by Sebastian Fitzek, Sabine Thiessler and Tommy Jaud), Bone Garden by Tess Gerittsen and the list goes on.... Oh, and I just ordered the new Lee Child book (just released in the Netherlands). So I am quite busy this month ;-))

My TBR stack is huge...I read whatever looks good at the moment. Right now I am reading Katie's Terror by David E Fisher. It's from the eighties, but so far very arresting.

And very early 80's. Main character won't call the cops when she is getting death threats from a stalker because the pigs oppress free expression and she doesn't want them to find her pot. I was pretty disapointed.
