Hi, glad to see a group dedicated to Medieval Junkies!! I fell in love with Medieval literature back in the 1980s and spent a decade studying Medieval English and French literature in graduate school (Comparative Literature). My favorite area was Arthurian romance/Arthurian chronicles but LOVE most Medieval literature. I love modern literature set in Medieval times too. I would welcome any title/author recommendations, particularly in terms of modern authors in all genres. I recently started reading romance late in life thanks to a friend of mine and love blogging/writing about books in my spare time.

I started reading history and historical novels, when I was in junior high and studied History of the world for the first time. I began with the Tudor period in England and then ventured further back from there. I enjoy Jean Plaidy and Sharon Kay Penman. Also Katherine Kurtz has a nice series.

Greetings, All ~ my love for the medieval period began about ten years ago when I started work on a fantasy novel. I wanted an authentic medieval setting so I began researching the period in earnest and fell in love. I had to stop my writing for a number of years but I have still spent what time I could reading about the period. I am addicted to anything medieval be it fiction, non-fiction, movies, music, decor, etc... I started back on my novel about a week ago and I am now happily back up to my elbows in research :)

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

    Hi, Gloria~

Actually, right after I plunged back into the research, I learned of NaNoWriMo so I've been doing some pretty intensive outlining and plot building. I am determined to get words on the page.

The story concept is pretty simple: After having banned the use of all magic under penalty of death, a king is forced to seek the assistance of magic to save his kingdom.

Hopefully it is not too cliched and the actual writing will make it more exciting than it sounds.

As I said in my earlier post, I've been playing with the idea for many years but haven't had the dedication to get it written. I'm giving myself November to at least make good strides on a first draft.

I'd love any advice you have for a first time novelist.
