Military SciFi

A group for the military scifi fans out there... To me, they are kind of like a scifi version of a romance novel... Are they deep philosophical stories? Not usually... Are the fun to read? Yes!

Good military sci-fi with cool female characters

I love my military sci-fi, but all too often it seems like the female characters are uninteresting or eye candy. I know there are a bunch of exceptions to that rule. I've read a lot of them. Anyone have any other advice for me? I've loved/liked these:

Honor Harringon series, David Weber (practically everything David Weber, although I prefer the battles to politics)
    Kris Longknife, Mike Shepherd
    Vatta's War, Elizabeth Moon
Lost Fleet, Jack Campbell (has anyone read his other stuff? I'm curious because this series is great!)
Starstrike, Michael Gear (it was pure brain candy fun)

I've read the Leary series by Drake a long time ago, I should give them another try.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, all!

Emily Devenport's Eggheads/Godheads. "Weak" endning, but a good read..
C.J. Cherryh's merchant series. Not strictly military, but do read as such.

And one of my all time favorit. Holly Lisle's Hunting the Corrigans Blood. On of my best read ever.. Think I have reread it 6-7 times.. And again not military as such. But more like rebel-sci-fi:)

With respect to Jack Campbell, be aware that that is a pseudonym. His real name is John G. Henry and he has two series under that name (which I haven't read) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_G._Hemry.

Interesting... I wasn't aware of that... I've enjoyed the Lost Fleet books so I may have to look into his series... When time permits... Sigh...

While you are enjoying David Weber, try "In Fury Born".
