I just joined this group and noticed that there has not been any new threads in some time. Figured I would start a new one to see if you were all still checking in every once in awhile.
Have any of you had a chance to read the new chapter on Martin's webpage from Jon's POV? I still have not because I was afraid it might spoil some surprises when the book is finally published. Having said that I was curious to know what you all thought. Maybe what direction you are hoping Martin takes with the character of Jon Snow and the fate of Winterfell.

I've read two character chapters from the upcoming book: Dany and Tyrion. Both interesting, but I think I'll hold off on Jon's chapter until Dance With Dragons hits shelves, which, according to Martin's site, may be a while. He's still writing, he claims.

As far as Jon Snow? He's fire and ice. I think he'll lead an army of Sparrows and save the world or something of that nature. Then he'll rebuild Winterfell and let it be ruled by... Bran ... or maybe even Tyrion and Sansa. Jon himself would of course rule in King's Landing, his rightful place, or even Dragonstone for that matter.

I just purchased GRRM's "DreamSongs Vol I". Have you or anybody else reading this post had a chance to read it yet? I was curious how well it stands up to ASOIF. I know it is supposed to be a collection of short stories but still he set the bar pretty high for me. I have been a little cautious about reading his other works for fear they just won't stand up to ASOIF. Anyway let me know what you think.

I read the Jon, Tyrion, and Reek chapters, but missed the Dany chapter, damn it!

All 4 of the sample chapters were great, I think enough to hold me on. I like the direction the book is going, and I know Martin's not taking great leaps in spoilers by putting these chapters in. Jess, you can probably find the sample chapter on westeros.org or towerofthehand.com or just googling it.

So I am a walden book store member... I am halfway through AFFC presently... I wanted to check about ADWD to see when it was going to be releeased or it if had been (i thought it might have been since the last time i checked) and well its avaliable for pre-order with a release date of September 28, 2010 has anyone heard that? I know on Martin's site it doesn't say anything... do we really have to wait another whole year?!

Martin won't name a date until it's set in stone, and this is pretty much because he's been naming dates for years and then not meeting those deadlines. I love the man's work, but I'm pretty much disgusted with how long he takes to write. Another year wouldn't surprise me at all; it certainly won't be out this year.
