Do you read a lot?
Started by soomi, Friday, July 20 2007. Last post Tuesday, June 3 2008.

I read about a book a day on working days and when I'm free even more.
But how about you? How many books do you read in let's say a week?

When I worked a day job, I read 5 or 6 books a week, mostly historical romances, but now that I write full time, I only read 5 or 6 fiction books a month, and the mix now includes fantasy, urban fantasy, and fantasy romance. I'm reading a historical right now that's good--The Marsh Hawk by Dawn MacTavish (Dawn Thompson).

Ugh, I'm in serious need of a manicure.

I'm a stay home Mommy and I do not watch TV, so I usually read 1-2 books a day. I prefer Historicals, but I throw Blaze novels in every once in a while. I also read several books a day to my kids. They're never too young to love reading. :-)

Wow you guys are amazing, the most I can read in a week would be 2 pushing 3. When we took a vacation I read 4 books and that was hard even with the free time.

I work 40 hrs week with 2 teenage girls and all the running we do it is hard to find the time to sit and read. I usually will not pick up a book unless I can read at least an hr with no interruptions, I hate sitting down reading 5 min and something comes up.

The Outlander series took me sometime to finish, I would "Guestimate" almost 3 weeks for each book.

Manicure sounds good too!!!!

I don't read as much as I used too. Writing takes up a lot of the time I used to read. But, I've found I love to listen to books on my mp3 player. So, I listen to a book every time I drive some where or I'm doing laundry or washing dishes or cleaning.... Unless my kids want to talk. But, I usually read/listen to about 4 or 5 books a week. Sometimes more.

I love going on vacation...it's a reading frenzy for me and hard to decide which books to take. Of course, I can always pick one up anywhere I go.

I used to read historical only, but now I read some other genres including non-romance action adventure. You know, Clive Cussler or Dan Brown those sort. And I like some of the Nora Roberts paranormal, ie., the Three Witch Island trilogy, Key Trilogy. She has a lot of those.

It depends, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say close to 12-15 a week. Last week I was trying to keep myself busy before HP came out and ended up reading 42 300 paged books in a week and a half. Some weeks I read more and others I read less.

Maybe, but I'm only 20 and only work part-time at the public library so I have a lot of spare time on my hands which I fill with reading most of the time. I practically eat, sleep, and think books. lol

Wow, after reading some of these posts, I can say not that much!!! but much to my husband's dismay I read quite a bit. I work full-time and have 2 school aged boys, so between work, family, house, lawn/garden I still tend to get at least 3 books in a week, sometimes more, sometimes less

I always have my book with me, so if I get stuck waiting for a train or whatever, I pull out my book and read. I read during breaks at work, or just curl up on the couch in the evenings. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't read for some amount of time.

There is a lot to be said for always having a book with you. I also always have my notebook with me to jot things down.
Before I had children, I used to read at least two books per day. Now I will probably read two or three works of fiction per week. If I am reading some of the shorter catagory romance, I will read more. I do a lot of background reading for my historicals, but they don't really count towards pleasure reading, except I do find them interesting.
My children all read faster than me now...but I suspect it is because they don't have as many distractions.

I certainly don't read a book a day...I have no time but I wish I did. I read a book a week if I am lucky...sometimes two. I do carry a book with me everywhere I go and I usually have two books going at once.

I have been known to read a book a day, but with the kids at home, I've been reading three to four books per week.

I read a lot, but most of what I read is submissions rather than published books. Like most other editors I only read complete submissions when I find one that has hooked me sufficiently that I plan to offer a contract. I may read 15-20 partial submissions before I find that one that I read all the way through.

I do try to stay somewhat abreast of what other publishers are publishing though...and so read as much as I can from a variety of sources, both ebooks and paperbooks. I usually read one or two published romances a week...usually in the evenings or while waiting. I prefer long reading times versus a few minutes snatched here and there, but as busy as life is will take what I can get. :-)

My reading runs the gammut. I read a lot of erotic romance, quite a bit of contemporary sensual romance, some sweeter books, historicals, paranormals. I select books from traditional publishers as well as ebook publishers. Pretty much like a variety, though I do have my favorite authors...and I tend to buy them pretty routinely, regardless of whether the sub-genre or story type is one I would usually go for.

I read an average of a book a week. I work a lot so I don't have the time to dedicate to reading. If I am on vacation or don't have a lot of shifts I can usually finish a book a day though. I like vacations. *g*

To those of you who can finish 4+ books a week, I'm insanely jealous! Lucky, lucky people!

I use to read about a book every 2-3 days. But about 1 1/2 years ago my fiance died and I am still trying to get back to reading. Some people turn to books others find their concentration is just not there. I am one of the latter ones unfortunately. I have been reading about 5-6 books a month lately though, so I am slowly getting there again.

Christina T, I am sorry to hear about your fiance.

I read about 2-3 books a week. I work fulltime, have 3 kids and lots of activities. I get up early and stay up late. Then there are red lights, and lunch breaks! My TBR list still continues to grow.

I am a slow reader. I am lucky to finish a book in two to three days reading most of the day away. For example I started reading a HR over the weekend. I think I got the first twenty pages in before I had to put the book down to work around the house and deal with the kids. Didnt read it at all Sunday but picked it up Monday morning and only put it down to to fix my sick kid something to eat or drink... read basically non stop for 6 hours and still had about a hundred pages to read this morning (took me two hours).

So to answer the question... I read at least one book a week and still get housework, yardwork, errands, and running the kids done. If I try to squeeze any more than one book in something else doesnt get done!

Romances, I can read one or two a day. Other books, usually a bit longer (day or two). But the thing is--I don't get much (else) done if I'm reading so much! I feel like I'm reading too much if I'm doing a book a day... and I try not to do that, since I actually need to get other stuff done!

I read a lot. Especially when I have a few days off, I will read as many books as I can. I can finish one or two romance novels in a day But as for other genres, it takes me about two to three days.

I always have two to three books in my bag when I go to school. One, I'll read on the train, the other one when I'm having lunch, and the last one, I read during the vacant hours.

I usually read before going to bed, but since I'm trying to write a novel, I don't have that luxury anymore.
