THE WINTER SEA

If you are looking for a great historical/genetic memory read you really need to read THE WINTER SEA by Susanna Kearsley. This IS THE BEST BOOK I have read in years. The plot has two story line: one in the future and one in the past (1708-Scotland). Lots of angst for the protagonists and this is definitely a LOVE story but not really typical romance. Have the tissues ready for the last 50 pages because you will need them but the ending is incredibly satisfying and a bit of a surprise.
The premise is a young historical fiction writer goes to NE Scotland to meet her agent and is drawn to Slains Castle at Cruden Bay. There she meets the Keith brothers and begins realize the story she had been working on has taken on a new muse, a young woman from her own familial past who now narrates her story. The problem as the scenes unfold quickly, she realizes that after the fact, the facts of the scene are accurate but how could she have known that when she wrote it? If you have read any of Barbara Erskine's early work with dual story lines, this book is in that tradition but offers the reader a different location and time period often now written about in historical fiction.

Unfortunately for NA readers you can only get this book by ordering it from the UK at this time, should be out in the US later in the year but well worth the cost to get it from Amazon.uk.
