What Historical Romance Are You Reading?

I didn't find a thread for a discussion for this topic. Although I didn't go way back through the old thread only to page 4 or so, so there might be one that no one has added anything to in over 6 months. Anyway, I thought I would start a new thread because I am really curious as to what everyone is reading.

This last month I read 9 books and only 2 of them were historical. I did find myself not quite as satisfied with some of the reading I did and I am thinking that I might just not have had my historical romance fix satisified enough. I read....
Highland Bride by Hannah Howell. I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars. For shelfari purposes I gave it 4 though (I really wish half stars were allowed here.) Anyway, I very much liked it. This is the second book I have read of hers and the 6th in her Murray series. I loved Gillyanne. I had to get to her book sooner rather then later after reading her part in Highland Knight which I read a few months back.

I also read Fountain of Deams by Josie Litton. I gave this on 4 out of 5 stars. I thought it was an interesting book and the interaction between the two main characters was good. I am looking forward to the next two in the trilogy Fountain of Secrets and Fountain of Fire.

I just started "The Ideal Wife" by Mary Balogh. This is my 1st book by her, even though I've heard a lot about her. What I've read so far is just what I look for in a historical. I don't care for those ones that span years or have the couple enstranged for a big length of time - nothing too miserable.

In the last month, I have read Celeste Bradley - The Royal Four series - I rated them a 4 - I enjoyed all of them.
I also read Hannah Howell - Highland Bride Series - also gave them a 4. Then I read three of Tina St John's books - also 4's and now on to a Nicole Cornick book - A Companion of Quality ----which I am not finding that interesting.

I've been reading Son of the Shadows. It has the setting and circimstances of a historicla romance but ii think that it's more of supernatural novel than a romantic one.

I just read At Last Comes Love by Mary Balogh. It was SO good. The characters were well developed, and the dialogue was good. I liked that a lot of those hot moments in the book were talking scenes and the heat was generated by words.

I finished Scandal in Spring by Lisa Kleypas. This is my third book that I have read by Kleypas and by far my favorite. It is the only Wallflower book that I have read and can't wait to read the others. I would give this book a 4.5

The whole Wallflower series is really good. Scandal In Spring was my favorite. If you continue reading the rest of the series don't miss A Wallflower Christmas, and the first 3 books of the Hathaway series, they are loosly connected and really great! Also Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas is AMAZING!

I started Powder and Patch by Georgette Heyer the other day and I am hating it. I know it was written almost 80 years ago so I stated it knowing it might feel dated. So far there is little narration and a lot of converstion which is adding to the dated feeling. I am having a tough time with it and not sure if I will finish it.

I finished "Marriage Trap" Elizabeth Thornton last week. I thought it was a good story, a little suspense but a good book. I'll look for more by this author.

I am reading Amanda Quick's Lie in Moonlight right now. It is my first Amanda Quick but not my first Jayne Ann Krentz. I am not sure I like the way the conversations are written. It just doesn't seem as if they flow well but maybe I just need time to get use to them.

I just read 2 books in Mary Balogh's "web" series - Web of Love & Devil's Web. I was so disappointed. Web of Love didn't even seem like a romance at all. I mean the main characters did love each other but I thought it was kind of a snooze and hardly any romance at all. The only bright point in the story were the parts about the injured soldier - that was interesting.

The Devil's Web was a bit more promising but it was one of these books in which the main characters are hateful to each other and argue through 95% of the book(The "hero" is especially mean). It had better relationships between the secondary characters. It had more interesting bits than Web of Love but it just had too much nastiness and misery for me to really enjoy.

I expected better of this author. Maybe 3rd time will be the charm and I'll like the other book in the series.

I have bought several historical romance novels the past weeks - books by Jane Father, Johanna Lindsey, Teresa Medeiros, Julia London, Claudia Dain among others but I have finished only 2 - Johanna Lindsey's No Choice But Seduction and Julia London's Highland Scandal---i enjoyed both books and gave them 4 stars.

I've read all Johanna Lindsey's books except the new ones and find her writing highly entertaining, although her best books and my favorite of hers are Secret Fire, A Heart So Wild and The Magic of You. Highland Scandal is my 2nd book by Julia London and so far, I enjoyed both!
