I always see a lot of her works on the shelf. What's a good one to start with?

All of the Pern series are very good except for the last three co-authored with her son. I pre-ordered all three and was very disappointed because not one of them was up to the same standard of the others.

I didn't find them so bad, worse was the cancellation of the TV Series.

Pern is a planet that is discovered and Earth people looking for a better life settle there and dismantal their way home to set up a new life. Years later they find the red planet orbiting drops deadly clouds and that the native fire lizard eat or burn it. Thus they create dragons from them and you have close to 20 books and centuties of Pern's devlopment. Main characters come and go depending on what years you are reading about. There are several series all relating to Pern, but not all to each other. Check her web site, she has them separated by series. I have only read 1 Pern book, but have listened to most by tape and CD.
She has a way of pulling you into the story and wanting another book.

Personally, I like "Skies of Pern". Oh, and "Dragonsblood".
