    Welcome New Members!

We have had a huge influx of new members today...something like 20 so far! I'm guessing that someone must have invited their friends to join and if so, thanks for spreading the word!

Since I usually send a personal welcome to each new member and we've had so many that I can't find all of the newbies since they're for some reason randomly placed in the members page instead of by join date, this is my official welcome to all of you.

FYI: We do a group read each month. This month we are discussing All the Numbers by Judy Merrill Larsen. Feel free to join in if you've read the book! Beginning March first, we'll be discussing In the Woods by Tana French and on April first, The Other Mother by Gwendolen Gross.

Please introduce yourselves here to the group...we'd love to meet you!

    Hi Ladies!!

I am knew to Shelfari and Moms Who Read.... as of Friday. I started All The Numbers today and hope to catch up with the rest of you. This book looks tough as far as subject matter so I'm a little worried that I can't handle it!!! Sure you felt the same as I read some of the input already.
I am the mother of three and definately look forward to my "escape" from it all with a great book. I also enjoy scrapbooking and stamping and have a passion for pregnancy and childbirth that led to me becoming a doula. I've attended 8 births so far and next to my own births, they are amazing journeys and a great joy.
Ordered In The Woods so I can be ready for March and I'm really looking forward to the discussions of this group!
    Hurray for books!!!

Hi! I never posted any info about myself when I joined recently. I am a SAHM with 2 boys, ages 4 and 5. My oldest is in half day kindergarten and starting to learn to read. It is so exciting! I hope he sees how much mom reads and enjoys reading like I do. My youngest is in preschool and is learning much faster than my oldest, mostly because he listens to everything we teach our oldest. He is trying to read already!

This group, in the short time since I joined, has been fun because it is so active. I'm looking forward to the March and April discussions, I've already requested the books from the library.

I look forward to "meeting" more of you and reading and joining discussions!

My son is also in half day Kindergarten and reading. We started out with BOB books and he's doing so great. My daughter is in third grade and he's way ahead of where she was at that age for the same reason your youngest is ahead. Between him listening to me work with her and her reading to him, he's been on the fast track!

Hi! I'm Amy and I suspect I know one of the culprits that's been inviting new members in ... Jass :) He's got a lot of friends out there to invite.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I hope you don't mind but it's doubtful that I'd participate in the group readings unless it happens to just coincide with something I'm already reading or have read.

I live in Houston, work in the field of architecture, have a great husband, a son (21), a daughter (16 for about 2 more weeks), a grandson (1 ... started walking today), and a very devoted dog. I read in mostly the escapist fictional literature of fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and a smidgeon of romance.

Hi and welcome to the Moms' group...we're glad to have you! When my kids were babies, I wasn't able to read much either. It wasn't until my son was in preschool and my daughter in elementary that I had an abundance of time during the day to sit down with a book. Years ago, I used to read while nursing or while the kids were napping and then got in the power reading after they both went to bed at 7:30 (I had them trained early because I NEEDED that me time!)

I love the name of this group! LOL! I'm JulieT, mom of three (17, 6 and 2), and I'm "slightly" obsessive about reading. My book club teases me, b/c I read all of the time--when drying my hair, when waiting for kiddos in carpool, when pretending to listen Diego with my little one...reading is definitely my sanity saver! :-) I think it's the best thing in the world when kids love to read, and I love kids' lit as much as adult lit. Let's see...hubby is Swiss, we love to travel, we have a company that we're busy try to buy out from our partners, I've started an environmental education/gardening program at my daughter's school, I'm finishing my Master Gardener certification, I go to German school Saturday mornings with the kids (I'm hopeless...), we're constantly trying to finish remodeling our house, and I set a goal to read at least a book a week each year. Last year I read 58--so I really don't get it when people say they "don't have time to read"--! To me, reading is like breathing...I just have to do it!

Look forward to getting to know you all! Have a great day!

Thank you for the welcome. I am -V-, married to my soulmate, and mom to my almost five year old DD, Lady K. We live in a northern Denver 'burb. Retired Air Force, both of us. Work for a guvment contractor. Keeps me in books. = )
I love to read and have done since I was 3, according to my mom. I am a fan of mysteries of all types, so long as they are well written. I like paranormal style too. I wander out and read nonfiction if it interests me, like biographies of interestingly strong personalities, Harry S Truman, Madeline Albright, Katherine Hepburn, Winston Churchill. Also love books about forensic science, archeology, deep sea treasure discoveries...so long as it is interesting to me and well written, I will likely read it.

Yup, Jassafari invited me too! I'm a mom of three boys all of them only months away from their 6th, 5th, and 3rd birthdays. A girlfriend recommended Shelfari and I've been hooked ever since (it's my home page). I read when the kids go to bed. I love this place. I lurked in here before being asked to join by Jassafari. It's great. (*waving*) HI to all the moms!

Hi! First off, thank you Julie for the warm welcome! Honestly, if I hadn't got your message, it would have taken me quite a while to look into this group and see all the awesome people in it :)
Hi! I'm a mother of a beautiful just-turned-three-and-knows-it-all year-old girl. LOL I work from home doing medical billing for a local family clinic. I Love to read when I can get the chance, which is mostly when my daughter and husband are fast asleep. I've been known to read clear into the early morning :)
I've got about four more books on my 'to read' list, but hope to be able to join in with the group soon.

    Hi Julie -
I'm an interloper - a complete newbie who was just browsing and struck by the group name. With 3 kids (12, 8 and 3) and a 23-year-old stepson who has "temporarily" (please, Lord!) moved back home, I think I qualify! Plus, I've been dying to discuss In The Woods with someone since I read it, so I'm looking forward to next month.

Hi Isabelle (and Julie and everyone else), I'm also a browser who happened to pass by! But I love what I read so far in the group, so I joined yesterday. I have two sons of 9 and 10. I just seem to read whenever I can, which is quite often, suprisingly!

Besides jars and packets I am reading my way through the books of Haruki Murakami at the moment, but also love the books by Jane Smiley, Barbara Kingsolver, Joanna Harris, Patrick Gale, Fay Weldon, and many more. I always had a preference for female authors but try to vary a bit more, and I am also reading a crime novel now and then.

    GaijinMama

    Hi Moms!
I'm 40 years young, either a full-time Mom to two beautiful bicultural kids, or a university English instructor on a **VERY** long maternity leave (my youngest is 4)

I've been a compulsive reader my whole life. I read in the loo, in coffeeshops, on crowded subway trains, you name it! My favorite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, paranormal and historical but I like nonfiction and poetry, too. Basically, I read anything as long as it's good!
It's a good thing I believe in reincarnation because I have more than enough books to last the next several lifetimes!
My favorite authors, in no particular order, include J.R.R. Tolkien, Peter S. Beagle, Lloyd Alexander, Diana Gabaldon, J.K. Rowling, Anne Rice, and Elizabeth Haydon.

I also knit, crochet, do hand embroidery, and love movies and TV (Lost, House, Bones, ER, Firefly, Stargate SG1 and Supernatural, anyone?)

Oh and....yes I live in Japan, right in the heart of Tokyo. Just
to be clear, I'm American, half Connecticut Yankee and half Los Angeles Beach Babe. My husband and kids are Japanese nationals and this is my permanent home now.
Yes, I speak the language. No I do not like manga,
    J-Pop, or anime.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi! I found this group by browsing after being invited by a friend pretty recently to Shelfari. I am Lisa and a SAHM to my very active 3 1/2 yr old boy. When I'm not running him to preschool, I am involved with MOMS Clubs, church, keeping my husbands and my oars in the water, reading here and there, but mostly after dishes are done and bills are paid. Our latest goal is for our son to be potty trained and to graduate to big boy underwear. Yes, I know, such lofty goals. I am a Midwesterner, but have also lived in the south where I presently reside with my family. Book wise--character development is key.

Hi all! New to Shelfari, and browsing through groups. Found this group title, and liked it .. and liking the discussion threads!
I have two boys, 17 and 7 ... two extremes - going through college applications and acceptances one day, two/three-digit addition/subtraction the next day. Thankfully, I'm finding that I have (a little) more time to read, as they are both independent now, i.e. they can find something to eat and drink by themselves, and can keep themselves busy and entertained without me!
Originally from the Philippines, grew up in Nigeria, West Africa, and now reside in New Jersey, USA. Work full-time, schedule my calendar around the kids' activities, soccer/baseball/(current sport) Mom, depending on the season. Knit and crochet (mostly afghans, blankets and baby items), would like to learn/start quilting some day. Other hobbies include photography, calligraphy, journals. Love to travel (specially when I can catch up on all the hobbies during the vacation time).
Hope to be able to join in the book readings and discussions, and to discover new books/authors.
    See ya!
